Default OT: Best restaurant near Watkins Glen?

Looking for your recommendation for the best restaurant in the area. Local food, interestingly prepared, and a good selection of local wines would be be best. The Seneca Lodge Restaurant is very good for steak, but I'm looking here for a place with more locally interesting food. The Stone Cat Cafe was good a couple of years ago, with a nice view of the lake at sunset. Another restaurant further up the road from the Stone Cat was quite disappointing. The Moosewood Restaurant in Ithaca publishes great cookbooks, but the menu for tonight does not excite (but it changes daily).

No need for there to be white tablecloths or proficient service, it's the food and drink that I'm looking for mostly (as long as the service is competent and the room attractive).

What do you think?

I like the Montage at the Glen Motor Inn. The food is usually terrific, they have a great view of Lake Seneca, and some good local wines on their wine list. When we stay at the Inn we end up eating dinner at the Montage most of the time.

I used to stay here in the old days -

the room staff appear to be unshockable and the foot was fine

Best is very subjective. There are times that Mr. Chicken just hits the spot. Call Red Newt winery and see if anything on the nightly special is appealing. We find it a little less hectic than most places around town.

Go downtown Watkins Glen and sample as many as possible. Also the Marina is fun!

Micro breweries, Italian, Oriental, you will enjoy.

No five star resturants but good food and nice people doing the servings.

Be safe!!!

Jerlando's is good for Italian
Market Street Brew Pub in Corning has a wide array of dishes and of course the beer is excellent
Wildflower Cafe - I don't think it's the right name but that's what's on the awning outside - good food, local beers, etc.
If you go toward Horseheads, you'll get Outback, Olive Garden, etc.

Please keep the ideas coming (except maybe for the latex and leather). It was at the Red Newt that I had a disappointing meal, but maybe the chef was unhappy that night as the room was virtually empty. I like Mr. Chicken for lunch at least once and the Seneca Lodge for dinner at least once, but I'm looking for a special place for one dinner. The Wildflower Cafe does burgers well. If I had to choose right now, I'd probably try the Red Newt one more time.

Red Newt was terrific when I was there with Chin during May. Just as good last year, too. But then, I am easily impressed.

Red Newt, and Glenora Winery on the lake. Good wine selections at both. Food is fusion and pretty good.

Stone Cat Bistro in Hector . . . they usually have live music as well. It is near Red Newt, which I also like a lot, but the back deck at the Stone Cat is really nice . . .

there is also that German place, but I forget the name. Spaetzle can hit the spot at times . .
