Default I'm sorry for your loss!

I'm sorry if I missed this in the thread, but was the car insured for theft?

Yes, it's "insured", but we'll see what they offer. I have all the invoices and in-progress photos of the engine as well as the chassis work, but I suspect they're going to come up with some reason why they won't do true replacement costs...

Default Was it insured for agreed value?

I'm sorry to intrude further, but I'm more curious than anything since this type of occurrance is rare.

How was the car insured?

Cant at all say I am shocked. Being an avid Snowmobiler, Canada is Notorious for stolen sleds. Very common to have sleds, trailer and tow vehicles stolen in one shot. Things have gotten better though.

The riding up there is the best on the Continent and the country so vast its easy to hide a hot sled. Most hotels have offered gated and patrolled storage areas for guests sleds overnight for like the last 5 years.

Sorry to say but, I suspect you car is chopped up already, those Canucks love their autosports too. I do have some good friends that are Canadian if you want PM me your email I can put ya in touch with them.

Good luck

I've had a couple of motorcycles and cars stolen. Most recently I had my Lincoln Navigator stolen while I was in a store furniture shopping for about 15 minutes. They stole it from a spot right in front of the front windows of the store. When I spoke with the detective he said most cars stolen now are the work of very organized rings and aren't chopped up but are put in containers and shipped overseas to Europe, Russia and Asia.

Good luck Linc, hope it works out.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

It doesn't stop people from stealing your trailer or towing your car, but I always bring my removable steering wheel with me when I leave my car. I'm sure I look a bit odd walking into McDonalds w/ a steering wheel, but at least I know no one will drive off w/ my car.

I've been going through my documentation as I prepare my case for the insurance co. There was no prior special Agreed On Value for this vehicle so we'll be trying to settle on the Actual Cash Value (another lesson learned). They will wait 30 days to see if the car shows up, but talking to the Canadian police last night yielded no new findings or investigation results.

More unique photos are posted below with the thought that these parts and custom work may begin showing up.

Interestingly in Maine after 15 years a car qualifies as Antique and no title is needed. So my existing title is worthless.

I might as well keep you all posted on how this resolves with the thought that you can learn from this unfortunate event and take the appropriate steps to avoid this experience with your car...

Looking at these pictures makes the theft even more painful.
It reminds me that lots of good pictures could be important if you ever have an insurance claim.

Actually - Rick raises a great point.. Can you submit any of the pictures to your insurance agency to prove a higher ACV (I'm not sure how the insurance thing actually works, sorry!). When I look at things like the intercooler, plumbing, Brembo, etc. - maybe an independent shop estimate of the cost??

I dunno - I'm just speechless at your loss... please keep us posted, OK??

Yes, I'm submitting nearly 120 photos of the work in-progress and notable components along with invoices and receipts for everything done. These will accompany my notarized statement. They'll also have the number to call Bill Pfister at Eurotech who did all the custom/installation work so that (if given a chance) he can explain what a labor of love (and $) this was.

Talking to the adjuster yesterday it sounds like they are going to pass this all along to a specialist within their company who can supposedly appreciate and understand these modifications. But let's face it - their goal will be to minimize a payout...

im sorry I missed this post and even more sorry for your loss. Its terrible when this happens and given the fact that they broke into a locked trailer all brings the point back to they knew what they were doing and knew what they were after.

Truely heartbreaking news and im so sorry for your loss. I'll keep a eye out on ebay for parts and the like but, I fear specialty cars like this one are shipped over seas.

Default Actual Cash Value

I hope you can find someone within the claims process that can side with you having a modified car. There are specialty companies that insure exotic, classic and modified cars based on agreed value and they don't typically hassle you if there is a claim. The main reason is becuase claims are rare. Typical auto insurers see claims hourly. Specialty companies do not because their clientele treats that particular asset with special care. The rates are typically pretty good too, especially for cars that are not street and only fire and theft insurance is needed.

I hope you find your car.

MT seems like Disneyworld when you are up there, the kind of place where you let your guard down.
GD $%&^% Linc I feel your pain!!

The above quote is so true, the country atmosphere etc. I just booked 42 month OnStar pkg with theft tracking in mind. This story makes me think I should put a full blown alarm system in my trailer.

I think of all the times I drop my trailer someplace "fairly safe" at or near a track and head for a hotel -

No doubt it is time to get really serious about security and we all need to really keep watching out for each other.
