The above quote is so true, the country atmosphere etc. I just booked 42 month OnStar pkg with theft tracking in mind. This story makes me think I should put a full blown alarm system in my trailer.

I think of all the times I drop my trailer someplace "fairly safe" at or near a track and head for a hotel -

No doubt it is time to get really serious about security and we all need to really keep watching out for each other.
The best locks in the world aren't going to keep people out...

Yes, we all need to learn from this and not get complacent with our presumed security measures. The LoJack concept isn't a bad thought either, although it's only one more layer of protection and probably has a short time window before it gets defeated.

Hope all's well, Bill. You can certainly appreciate the loss of a Pfister-built project...

Linc, terrible loss. I'm more paranoid then ever since seeing this post...

The way the latch was cut above can be made more difficult with Master Lock Hidden Shackle Padlocks.

I just ordered a set for my trailer after seeing these at the track and speaking with the owner. His trailer was broken into by cutting around the latch same as your picture above.

Dynarace 10-4 on the locks I had my entire trailer taken with all the bits, readily available tools at hardware stores will compromise any lock. Keep reporting your car and mods to "boards and shops" it is a very small world and things pop up,

It still pisses me off, i hope you have more success than i.

How do they cut that w/o any one saying any thing? Or would bolt cutters do it? They had to have had air tools or something to do it quickly enough not to attract attention, but the noise...?

helped the neighbor lady reposess her boat from her ex husband took a dremel tool with a cut off wheel one of those ac plug ins that plugs into the cigarette lighter. stopped with the paper work at he police station to bring them along took less than a minute to cut the lock off the trailer. better off getting lojac or some other kind of hidden tracking system.

I'm thinking more like 007 and his exploding Lotus.

These lowlifes definitely deserve to get their ***** blown up.

The clasps cuts were cleanly beveled - I think they just used bolt cutters on the stamped steel to quickly and quietly gain entry. They were pro enough that they even kept the pieces so there weren't any traces on the ground.

The hidden shackle lock is intriguing and if it fits, would have prevented this particular MO. But there's plenty of ways to defeat those clasps if you're determined.

Just a comment on your post... I am a PCA member but not from your region. I attended the event as a spectator and the guy at the main gate gave me the third degree before he let me in. I had to hand him over my PCA card and two other id's before he let me in.

In years before I was a PCA member, I emailed the PCA region head and asked to attend the events, I printed up the acceptance emails... and still, at the LCMT track gate, we had to find the person who sent the invitation and get them to sign off.

Just a shot in the dark....if anything.... the folks who work at the track have the least amount invested. They are local folk who are not exactly getting paid a king's ransom, yet watch "rich guys go around in a circle". Wouldn't they make easy targets for organized crime...

Linc,

We checked with our source, and his 8"-thick file did not turn up any names that are current. One person retired a number of years ago.

He did say to really keep after the Montreal police with a vengeance. He heard from the Hells Angels in MA, not those in Canada. As we wrote before, the LCMP and Montreal police are very much aware of this Gone in 60 Seconds ring.

Ask the police to check all the chop shops they know. It is highly unlikely, according to our source, that they will give you the names of the chop shops. It might tip their hand. So do keep after them. Even head back to Montreal on a hunt, contact the Hells Angels there with an offer of a finder's fee/ransom. We had hoped to have more information, but this is the best we could get.

The only bright spot — if you can call it that — is that our source eventually recovered his car a year later when the police arrested one of the principals of the Hells Angels who had been enjoying the car as his personal toy. The original VIN, alas, was gone, decreasing the value of the car multifold. A new "original" VIN was returned, but it was clearly forged. Much too neat and even to be the original.

Quebec is car theft capital of Canada. Sorry to hear about his loss, looks like a beautiful car. Will keep are eyes and ears open. My guess is they knew what they were looking for, they had to know about DE's happening at Tremblant. There are a lot of car theft rings in Montreal area especailly south shore towards Quebec City rings had operations out of that area known fact from media reports. Again sorry about your loss.

Default Update

Just an update on where I am at this point. Tremblant police continue to deny having any leads or news to report. I've yet to see any identifiable parts showing up on auctions on-line, but I can't imagine these pros would make that obvious a blunder.

I have submitted via certified mail a notarized affidavit to the insurance co. with copies of all my typed invoices & receipts for most of the high-end work that was done. I also enclosed 110 (!) 4X6 photos of a number of the modified pieces as well as a lot of the work that was done in-progress over the years. They say they need to wait 30 days to be sure of no recovery before offering a settlement, and we're about a week from that. Supposedly the insurance adjuster I spoke with is going to pass the photos/invoices along to a "specialist" to determine the worth of the car.

I'll keep you all posted as the discussions evolve...

The fact that they stole a car from an unmarked trailer in a short time means they were pros who new exactly what was in there.

How? they have a "spotter" with access to the paddockat the track who gets a few bucks for information and can't be connected to the actual deed.

The local cops have been stymied this way before I'm sure and will tend to work on things more important and easier than some 'rich" American's toy.

The people who run LCMT are aware of this I'm sure. What thye do about it is somehting else.
