There was a thread about this sometime back. I've done a quick search and apparently I am not using the correct key words. Certainly someone will post with the link to the thread.

Ha!
I love it with all my heart. Nothing like offering perspective and stomping the occasional inflated ego to set the world straight.

I know how the other cars must feel. I was running public laps at the ring showing someone the line in a BMW 330. We were passing just about everyone, but here comes a Mini Cooper up Kesselken and blew by us. I could not keep in sight past the Karussel. I went into the pits and talked to a local ringer. He explained " Oh Das was the original ring taxi" He has an NSX engine in the car with R-tires and 1000's of laps on the circuit.

I knew a guy from GM Performance (engineer/manageer) who used to make prototype concept cars like this. They were minivans with a corvette chassis and LSx motors, 12" wide wheels and some beefy rubber, they were pretty crazy.

Take part in a singular project!
For taxi travels on the racing course, we build a VOLKSWAGEN bus
Jg. 1962 (Split Window) with Porsche 993 Bi turbo technology.
we began 2002 with the change.
In our product requirement specifications the following defaults are located:
External form if possible original maintain
Entire technology by Porsche (993 Bi turbo)
Compromise-loose building for the racing course
4 seats
Note! ! !
At present we are to be tested with the Race taxi in the test phase around chassis attitudes. For the optics (lacquer finish inside and outside) still no time was used. The current lacquer finish is only a rust protection. After conclusion of the test phase the vehicle is divided completely and laid on only then the final lacquer finish. Subsequently, the Race taxi is again developed. Let you surprise.
Technical data:
Type: VOLKSWAGEN T1 (Split Window) 1962
Engine: air-cooled light alloy six cylinder of Porsche (993 Bi turbo)
Capacity: 3.600 ccm
Achievement: Original 408 HP later approx.. 500 HP
Transmission: Mechanical six-gearbox type 996 GT3 with cable assembly.
Brake assembly: ventilated and punched disks, original Porsche 993 Bi turbo with ABS.
Chassis: in front and in the back independent suspension with elevatoradjustable shock struts.
Adjustable stabilizers.
Steering element: Power steering by Porsche (993 Bi turbo).
Wheels: Three-part BBS racing rims (8.5J x 18 in front and 10J x 18 in the back)
Weight: Approx.. 1600 kg.

Thanks for the link. I'd seen the video but never any details. If I won the lotto, I'd be doing crap like that... NASCAR cup engine in a Taurus rental, STI engine in a Beetle... crazy stuff.
