If you want a stopwatch that can record/display MANY split times (for up to 4 drivers), I would suggest the AIM Multichron (pretty much the de facto stopwatch at karting events (you can even buy it in a color to match your car):
http://aimsports.com/products/multichron/index.html
Manual:
http://aimsports.com/pdf/Multichron_107_eng.pdf
Just tap when you pass your split marker/reference and tap when you pass start/finish. You will have all of your split and lap times available.

Dell,
I just bought a Traqmate, I love it. So I don't need my AIM Mycron Light anymore. I will sell it to you for $175. It's nice because it uses the AIM transponder so most DE's it's on the wall already. I found it to be much better than a Hotlap.

I sold my HotLap timer for $50 late last year; they work OK, not great (had QC problems that were solved by shimming the circuit board with a piece of cardboard). Bet you can find a similiar deal as many of us have moved on, but its not a bad system.
BTW, you can test the receiver by waving a flourescent light in front of it.

TraqMate is about to come out with a software update that will combine "best segments" of your session and give you a theoretical. If only I could combine like the software will. Point is that within a best lap, I will find that I don't have best segments or data points. I can look at 10 laps and find that there's a cluster of some "best" data in the best laps, but brake timing, entry and exit speed, lateral and braking Gs, etc. are plus and minus in the various laps. So it gives me something great to work on - seeing just where I can brake even if it wasn't done in my best lap.

Still the best tool, trade cars with a similar driver/similar car. Compare data.

I already got "the look" when she asked how much the bypass pipes were when they came last week. I can't keep side-stepping these land mines with a pregnant woman unless I want to start looking for a good divorce lawyer

Buy her some nice earings and when she asks how much the TM cost, pull out the earing box and say "the same as these".
