Default Porsche Race history from a trophy girl's perspective

Well, it's really about selling Cayennes, but entertaining nonetheless . . .

http://microsite.porsche.com/all/rew...winning/en-us/

found it on the Wall Street Journal site this am. You must have Flash 9 installed or "go home"

cheers

I really hate how they are trying to use a racing heritage to sell an SUV that has nothing to do with racing. They should race Paris-Dakar or the Baja 1000 with it, and use that in their ads instead.

Cool video, thanks.

But it's really, ahem...odd... to see them using their racing heritage to sell VW SUVs. I find it a touch insulting that they think we believe such b.s.

I dont think that marketing piece targets us "listees" really, but your point is well taken. We are really a different ilk than a potential Cayenne buyer. Hell, the only time I've been in a dealership was to buy maybe $200 worth of parts so I know Porsche doesnt see alot of money coming from me. I see it as targeting affluent mothers (hence the female narration) who like to sit high-up and have capacity for hauling kids or shopping pals or perhaps the affluent Financial Professional who needs such a vehicle for their trophy wife. It's just always been PCNA's approach to leverage their racing history to sell cars and so it's a hard habit to break (?).

I completely agree that the Cayenne tie-in is contrived and annoying. I just love the sound clips of the 917/10 and the bird's-eye footage of that flat 8 in the F1 car - YUMMY!

Some great vintage video on that film. If I didn't know better I would have initially thought it was about the Cayman / Boxster platform as they kept referring to the mid engine configuration.

But you're right it is geared for a more generalized market...

Matt, yes I totally agree with everything you're saying. When I said they're insulting "us" I meant the U.S. populace. Perhaps some might believe this crap about using racing technologies in the Cayenne, but geesh you'd have to be pretty naive.

But it's also odd that they're using racing footage to market to women. Like you said, old habits die hard!!

Great footage in that clip, too.

Matt,
Thanks for posting... great footage of one of our PCA members in the L&M car... a true racing legend George Follmer.

It'd be a great film clip if someone edited out all of the Cayenne family-truckster bits...

Great footage, thanks for posting. Although, I would be surprised if the current breed of trophy girls are that articulate.
