Default BF Goodrich R1 Feed back....anyone?

I know some of you must have had the time to test these by now. Any reports? I don't understand why or how, but Tire Rack is claiming better performance than the Hoosier R6. Strange considering they sell both.

I read that also, 1 second plus over a 45 second course, hard to believe....that would be almost 2 seconds at Summit Point: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...irePageLocQty=

I just got a reply from BFG yesterday stating that they would have a 245/40/17 by the end of the month...right now thier smallest size in a 17 is a 275/40....can't use that up front.

I think/hope I have enough wear from my current tires that I probably won't find out for myself this year, but am looking forward to reading results from others.

Think about this kiddies:

BFG is claiming major gains in a tire that they haven't produced in quantity or variety of sizes.

Know what that's called ? "Marketing".

My goal is to never screw another BFG on my cars for as long as I live. Their trackside and support staff were (IMHO) complete asswipes when last they played in the club racing world. Screw them.

what is also interesting is that the tire specs on max load, at least on the 18" sizes you can see are lower compared to other tires. That makes me very afraid putting a 285/30 on my 911 given the issues with the Hoosiers and all that weight and stress the tires have to carry on our 911's.
I was surprised to see tire rack "bite" so heavily into the marketing dollars and write a "test" without any meaningful numbers or data to speak off. Not a good move IMO from Tire Rack.

Remember, TireRack just sold part of itself off to a private equity group. They want PROFITS, and I am sure BFG is offering extra commissions to move the new products. Not saying they aren't good, but I am just saying....

I have to admit this is one reason I love having a spec tire in my racing class. Never any need to figure what the latest "flavor of month" R-tire is.

Honestly Hoosiers are tough to beat when you want outright speed in a "DOT" tire.

BFG was always very good to me when I was autocrossing on their tires. Their national championship trophy was much better than SCCAs and they even gave me a big SUPER BOWL RING in solid gold (heavy!). I hope they can make it back to competition with a good product, will see!!!

With Toyo phasing out their wonderful Proxes RA-1's, I will need to consider what to replace these tires with next season. I've been running RA-1's since 2004.

I'm hoping the new Toyo R888 will have similar grip, longevity, and reliability as the RA-1's.

But if the R888's don't pan out, I would be curious to see if the R-1's are a viable choice for me, so I too, am very interested to see if anyone has had some real-world experience with this new rubber...

Word is the new Toyos have the exact same compound as the R1s. Only the tread pattern is different. A local race outfit was testing for Toyos. Apparently the new pattern is better in the wet.

Has Hoosier sorted the load problem with the 285?

I have not tried them but a friend had two sets for the LRP race. He said they sucked for any run over 7 laps. They stuck in the beginning and then went really slick...

I'll revive this thread in search of additional feedback. Anyone else using these tires?

Was he using the Toyos or the BF Goodrichs?
Thanks

Writeup on speedtv where they mention R1's and their performance

http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto...festyle/37069/

Paul Gerrard, SPEED World Challenge GT driver and pilot of the brutally fast AMS Mitsubishi Evo in the Redline Time Attack portion of the event, noted the life and wear trends of the R1’s, “We’ve been on the same set of BFG R1’s for two events now, and other than a little bit of wear, they are as fast today as they were two weekends of racing ago.”
