Run it. That part of the tire where the tread and sidewall meet is really thick.
I had a 1"X1" chunk removed from getting into the fender. I showed it to the Hoosier Midwest guy and he said to run it. I did and it was fine.

Dude, that's totally fine. The rubber is fairly thick and the gouge isn't nearly as large as the wear marker. I'm sure if most of you guys look at your tires you are tracking you'd be amazed what you'd find...

Although I agree with Dell about not compromising your safety, that little dig isn't enough (by looking at it from here 
) that its a problem. You'll tear that tire up worse by driving hard than that little dig presents as a problem. You may actually get it to melt back into the tire or pick up "marbles" that'll fill it in. I would run it and check it often. When in doubt, replace it.

Think about it. You are cruising around the track at triple digit speeds in a very expensive car and you are debating about spending a couple hundred dollars as an insurance policy investing in a NEW tire. Sorry, not me.

Another consideration is that the car may not be alone on the track and could wad up others depending upon passing/run group rules. During a recent event I had to retire my students car due to slice on the sidewall (small but noticable) we discovered after a 1/2 session (no spare tire).
+1 on the if you have to ask thing I do appreciate the cost of tires but not at the risk of yourself or others.

I put 250 track miles on it today with no problems. No bubble or anything there to indicate that structure has been comprised. New tire is here tomorrow, but I am just about through the channels on these tires already.
