Default $950 for track alignment and corner balancing

The grand total for a track aligning and corner balancing on my 86 951 came to roughly $950! The work was performed by a “reputable” Porsche shop. Am I out of touch with what things cost nowadays?

Corner weighting can be quite a bit, I was quoted $325. A full alignment for my car is around $120. So yes, $950 seems a bit high Glad I don't live in NY.

Hey Anthony, did i buy sport seats from you a few years ago?

And would appreciate it if you can PM me with who did the work for you. I am working on doing a stiffer suspension and would eventually like to have this done for my car.

OUCH. At the HIGH END shop here known for high prices even in the SF bay area an alignment is $325 and CB $350 - and you're definitely paying more for their reputation than anything else. I'd look for someone else next time.

I could see this if they had to manufacture parts ie: brake line holders etc, bump stops for Motons, but not a corner balance alone. Did they do anything else such as; flush the brake system, oil? Any parts installed? If not, sounds high. Typical alignment around here including ride height etc, is 400 to 500.00 in labor. (and that's on/off the rack several times including a test drive or two) That amount is from full out race shops whose stickers adorn cars on tv.

I think that it depends on whether on not they had to re-index the rear torsion bars to get the corner balance right. If they did, the price is palatable. If not, then it is quite high.

Agreed with the others that is quite high. Alignment at Steinels - Porsche only shop - is $220 with corner balancing and extra $350ish.

I got my 944 S2 four wheel allignment and digital corner balance done a couple of months ago by a good local indy shop.
The cost was $450 and the car did not have torsion bars.

In Northern NJ the best shops would be about half of that!

I just got my car back from the shop - in NY, 1.5 hours north of Manhattan. My bill shows: Set ride height, align, and corner balance = 5.0 hours or $425. Without setting the ride height it would've been cheaper, along the lines of what others have posted. Did the shop describe what exactly was done and how many hours it took them to get it done?

PM me if you want the info of my shop, I'll send it to you. I've been very happy with them so far.

This is where the cost come in. If they have to R&R the torsion bars to lower and balance the car then it can be around a grand. It can be a bitch of a job getting the splines lined up correctly. Check your receipt. If this was done, don't sweat it. Just have a smoke.

Thank for the responses. This was a straight forward 4-wheel alignment and corner balancing. No TB reindexing involved. I was told that they spent 12 hours on it! But they only charged me for 10. Nice of them. I'll post more details as soon as I have the chance to talk to the owner.
