Default Adjusting 996 Supercup shifter cables

What is the proper process to adjust 996 shift cables?

It is actually a 996 Supercup shifter & cup cables on a 6 speed H-pattern shifter...

Everything is new and installed and I need to properly adjust the cables?

Thanks,
Norm

Norm,

Did you install a 996 shifter in your car? I'd be very interested in hearing how it works.

P.S. Notice the similarities in our avatars...

Mike,

I pulled my G50/52 with all billet parts in it and upgraded to a 996 GT2 race trans with 996 Supercup shifter and supercup cables.

Nice looking car you have :-)

Everything is now installed, just have to put on the cables and adjust...

You need to borrow the plastic adjustment guide from someone, I think it clamps on then you adjust the cables. That tranny ought to be great in your car, good luck!

Mike,

Thanks.

my new cup shifter came with a plastic clamp tool that holds the shifter exactly in neutral.

What happens next?

How much do you actually tighten/adjust the cables?

Norm,

Thats funny. I actually almost bought a great Ricardo sequential, but getting parts would have taken too long if I needed them mid season. It had to be a special sequential that can handle the torque so I cld not use a cup or rsr sequential.

Funny this setup cost me a little more than the sequential I was looking at in order to get everything perfect...

Plus Norm would have wanted to upgrade to a MoTeC ECU that can propery work with the sequential box for flat shifting.

Norm,

Will you post photos of the installation? I considered making the same change a while back, after my differential sheared. I wound up sticking with the G50, but I have always wondered if I should have gone the other route. Once you're up and running, let us know how it works.

FWIW, my car is not turbocharged, so torque issues were not the deciding factor.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

Will do...

The only drawback was cost. I have $21K in parts alone LOL....

But it should be an awesome setup...

Norm,
If it's similar to the stock 996 shifter its just a matter of putting the trans in neutral, disconnecting the cables behind the shifter, putting the plastic retaining gizmo on the shifter and reattaching the cables. Sounds too simple but that's what I had to do on my old 996 stock racecar.
