"Two hundred thousand people come to Le Mans to see a race, not a diesel parade."

Yeah, Peugot is trying to copy Audi, but that car will probably never come to the US, it'll strictly be a LeMans effort. Who else on either side is putting up a serious challenge to Audi in LMP1?

Acutally, Peugeot will be racing in all 6 of the Le Mans Series races this year including the race in Brazil.

Pecarolo will have a new body for their new "01" cars for the May 6th 1,000 km of Valencia. A customer car of Pecarolo, Rollcentre Racing.

This brand-new Lola B07/10 Judd of Charouz Racing Systems was very fast in the 1,000 km of Monza this month, but the 908s were faster thanks, in part, due to the huge torque.

The Dome S101.5 Judd of Racing for Holland is fast, but needs more testing. Jan Lammers, 1988 Le Mans winner, made the team several years ago. Dome is a Japanese race car builder and the S101.5 is new for 2007.

Laurent Chauveau: Jan Lammers, hello. You must be satisfied this season because the Racing For Holland team became an official partner for Dome?

JL: "Yes, Dome grants a little more support to us this year because we have many new things to test and adjust. We have a new frame, a new engine, new tires, a system of shifting of speed very different bus it pneumatic is controlled electronically while the precedent was mechanical, of new exhausts intended to improve our aerodynamics, of new clamps of brakes, a new system of cooling of the brakes, a new aileron, not badly of small aerodynamic innovations, etc... It is thus a car which enormously evolved/moved and very different from that of the last year."

Laurent Chauveau: Do you have a sufficient budget right now to ensure the complete season?

JL: "Not, not yet. The more so as I want to make the two last sleeves of American Mans Series, Petit Mans and Laguna Seca. It is usual for a TEAM such as our starting the season while having only 60 to 70% of the total budget necessary. It is what is a little risky because it is as a train which would spring on the way by knowing that the rails all are not posed yet! Therefore, we must still find financing. Sometimes one arrives there, and sometimes one fails... But I really make a point of disputing the entirety of the season Mans Series. Even if the end of season is financially difficult."

>>Advanced Engine Research update. Just a brief reply from AER's Mike Lancaster indicates that the 2007 developments are already being worked on with an aggressive dyno program in the works for performance upgrades. The AER P32T is due to get a revised water pump to improve engine endurance and both the P32T and P07 will be getting "massively revised software" for 07. Lancaster further elaborates, "The testing we have been doing has given us some good directions and this should make for much improved engines next season." Revised wastegate designs are in the pipeline for both powerplants and will benefit from improved electronics. The P32T's direct injection system still has not made its debut but Lancaster says that development on the system will continue over the winter and it will appear when AER feels that it has enough of a performance increase over the non-DI to justify finally bringing it forward.

Peugeot announced they would use a diesel engine in their new LMP in June, 2005 which was months before the news of the R10 leaked.

Yeah, but Peugot announced early because they knew what Audi was up to. What was it six months later or so and Audi has the car, in Paris no less, for its public debut. We just saw the Peugot for the first time what, 3 or 4 months ago? (Might have been longer I just can't remember. Judds have always been fast, just not reliable. They do sound sweet though with that F1 kind of exhaust note. I don't have any doubt that if Peugot has any kind of race at LeMans they'll be at the other enduros such as Spa and etc. Don't ever see them over here to run Sebring, Lime Rock, Watkins Glen, Petite Lemans, and Leguna Seca though. I just don't see anyone investing enough to go beat Audi at LeMans unless the rules are changed enough to really handicap those guys. The ACO has tried to level that field a couple of times (remember the 6-minute rear-end changes?) but Audi always figures how to beat them at their own game.

The 5.0 liter Judd V-10 has been much more reliable than the 4.0 liter one. Now is makes more mid range torque with better fuel economy.

The rules favor diesels so if the ACO were to level the playing field, it would actually giving everyone an equal chance.

Mario Andretti thinks the rules favor diesels in P1 (check the November, 2006 issue of Excellence magazine.

Why do turbodiesels get an extrax 37 % more engine displacement than turbo'd gasoline engines?

LE MANS IN SOOT-BASED SHOCKER

Following the success of the diesel powered Audi R10 and the unveiling of Peugeot's equally dieselly 908 racer, the organisers of next year's Le Mans 24 have stunned motorsports fans by announcing that the 2007 event is to be re-named Les 24 Heures du Mans Run Economique.

The newly titled race will still take place over a June weekend, but will now abandon the focus on tightly timed endurance racing in favour of exciting wheel-to-wheel sensible driving and considered frugality. "With the advent of diesel race cars this seemed the perfect time to change this most illustrious of motoring events," said a spokesman for Automobile Club De L'Ouest (now a wholly owned subsidiary of the Institute of Advanced Motorists). "These are magnificent cars that simply ripple with fiscal prudence. We thought it was time to change the rules so that they can show off their mighty miles per gallon figures and impressive range between, 'ow you say, the pumps".

Under the new rules of Le Run Economique, the winning car will be the one that records the highest fuel economy figure in 24 hours of driving, with additional points awards for skills such as courteous night driving to avoid waking up local residents, best wheel shuffling and pleasantest pit garage.

The teams taking part have been quick to react to the radical change in format, not least current race champions Audi; "With the new regulations we realised we need to find drivers who are best placed to give us the competitive advantage," admitted a team insider. "That's why we've signed Saj Choudhury, a minicab driver from Enfield. Already the team has been impressed with Saj's commitment, his professionalism, his refusal to wear a seatbelt and of course his determination to drive everywhere in fourth gear". Not to be outdone, a Peugeot Sport spokesman was keen to reveal their own economy minded new signing; "It's Chris Goffey," he said.
