Default Group Buy on Custom Molded Earbud/Earplug Kits

Hello All,

John D. has approved a group buy for custom molded ear plug kits.

I have always had problems pulling my radio ear buds out when getting suited up and while driving. Last week I found a guy that supplies professional shops with the material to make custom-molded ear buds and bought a set to try them out. They are awesome!

The kit consists of a two-part epoxy that you blend together then wrap the mixture around the transducers (after you remove the foam covers). You shape it into a cone with a bit of the plastic tube sticking out from the end of the mixture, insert in into your ear then press the rest of the material into your ear for a perfect custom fit. The kit comes in 2 bags so you have to mix half of one bag with half of the other, work it into a uniform color putty and insert in your ears. You only have a short time before the putty sets up so you don't want to mix both ears at the same time. The mixture in skin tone.

He starting making these for shooters as ear plugs so you can use them for that purpose as well. He doesn't want to deal with individual orders so they have to come through me.

Normal pricing on these are $25.00 I think, but we can get them shipped for $16.76 if you use PayPal or $16.00 if you send a check.

I guess I'll leave this open for a week then place the order. If you have questions let me know.

Sweet. Any idea where to get good transducers inexpensively? Thanks!

mnorek, you have to have a set of foam earbuds now. You carefully remove the yellow foam ends and you will see the transducers. There are short clear plastic tubes that direct the sound. Leave just a bit of that tube revealed and you are good to go. If yours are broken, I do not have a good source. I had one replaced last year for $73!

Arkadi, the instructions that come with the kit are good but you really have to follow them! Very simple but the working time is short. I mixed as quickly as I could in my palm and formed a cone (like the picture will show in the directions) and inserted as deeply as I could into my ear. Once it was inserted, I then pressed the putty into my outer ear and the fit is great.

The only concern is that if you don't get the end pieces inserted well and just try to jam the stuff in your ears, you won't get good coverage inside the ear canal which holds the buds in place. Other than that, it was pretty simple.

If you are really concerned Arkadi and you and your buddy are going to order them, then I might suggest getting 3 sets...that gives both of you one mulligan.

I'll scan and post the directions that come with the set tomorrow.

Mind if I ask a couple local guys if they'd be interested?

If anyone has an inexpensive source for transducers I'd be interested too. Look at the price of a set of iPod earbuds and tell me why the radio ones are so expensive.

I am using them as earbuds (headphones?) with our radio speakers inserted. You take off the foam plugs and wrap the speaker (transducer) with the goo then press it in your ear. They set up and provide and excellent fit.

You can also use them as earplugs.

I do not know if you could use them as "ipod" type earbuds b/c I have never taken a set of ipod buds apart.
