My hatch was busted the other night. How ok would this hatch be for a street car w/o garage in North Texas? Does the thicker LEXAN still pop during heavy braking?

The lexan gives the same appearance as glass. If you are putting into a street car, you may want the slight tint which is $15 more. The 3/16" hatch if properly fitted should not make noise during braking or any other time. However the 1/8" may make a noise if no metal support stripping is added after installation. I recommend the 3/16" for most all applications. The 1/8" is generally used in GT cars that have a serious thirst for weight loss regardless of appearance. The fact the car is left outdoors should have no adverse effect to the hatch.

What would shipping cost for a windshield to zip code 46032?

Hey Rick,

I sent you a PM for a quote on shipping to your zip. Shipping is running between $75 and $100. Unfortunately, the box size on these is oversized so UPS bangs us for shipping costs. We can also ship these and bill the recipient's UPS or Fedex account if that helps.

We sell a Lexan cleaner/polish on our site. The windshields are hardcoated to help prevent scratches but the hatches are not hardcoated so they will scratch easier. Here's the product we sell - there are others out on the market but this one has worked great for us. You can also use it on other painted and glossy surfaces.

How easy is installation or is it likely that a local glass place would be willing to do this?

I've never removed/installed a windshield so not sure what is really involve and may not have the necessary tools.

Have you worked with anyone in the Indianapolis area?

Thanks much,

Rick

Installation is labor intensive. If you have specific questions, give us a call.

For the benefit of those who do not know...

Unless you have a serious track car, you want no part of lexan. It is a PITA. You can't clean it without scratching it. Not every time. It scratches, it fogs, it is expensive, and it should be considered a consumable like brake pads and tires.

Frankly, most don't have the energy to keep screwing with it. Glass is better.

How much weight does it really save anyway? I need to lose weight in my car but I'm not sure this is the best way to lose 15-20 pounds.

Hmmm...

I'd say 10-30% for most panels. The 944 rear hatch is an exception, saving a TON.
