I use the Reese system (flat bar in my case) and couldn't be happier with how works.

Trailer construction seems to make a difference. I wanted dual cam but had to settle for friction as the tongue is constructed from wide alum. members (Featherlite). With the dual cam it was too low. Friction OK but the cam style IMO is better. Regardless of the make/style you will notice an immediate difference in performance.

I also now use the Reese intgrated system for my 24' TPD. I had used a simple weight distribution hitch (no sway control) previously (for an 18' open trailer). The sway control is an extra step up that's worth it.

While not hitch related, I installed a back-up camera on my truck. It makes hooking up trivial - no more in and out 3-4 times to get lined up - and it provides a great help for just normal back-up too.

How much does a basic weight dist. hitch setup cost? I'm considering getting one for my aircraft carrier.

Reese Dual Cam is the most popular system we use.

I would call the trailer manufacturer and ask them what they recommend since different trailers have different construction. What do you guys with late model Featherlights use?

i use an equil-i-zer rated at 10,000lbs in anti-sway, kit around 500-600 bucks...

but the best is the hensley arrow.. starts at 3,000 and the technology is far superior to the friction based models...

I will third the equilizer - I use it on me 20" enclosed car trailer and 32' travel trailer. I do pull both with a Dodge 3/4 ton diesel which helps.

Are weight distribution hitchs helpful for open (ie. lighter weight) trailer. I tow my 944 on a steel open trailer and have not had a problem but I would consider anything to make towing safer.

I prefer trunnion myself.

If you can see noticable squat on the rear end of the tow vehicle and the front end feels a bit light while driving when coupled I'd suggest installing a weight distribution hitch.

You may find the information provided in the following link, my company's website, an interesting read: http://www.primotrailersales.com/hitch_wd.shtml
