Default Two Q's: pull up or pull down? how are GForce belts?

I am in the market for new harnesses.

I am looking closely at GForce camlocks. They look to be polyester which is about the only requirement I have. Anyone out there have experience with GForce belts?

I currently have pull down lap belts. I have heard that for some pull up works better and for others it doesn't. What's consensus here?

I prefered the "pull up" lap belts in my 911. More room to get more leverage on them (my car had door pockets which would get in the way). I've used Cam-Locks and Lock and Latch. I prefer the L&L (harder to accidentally open) but they also would bruise my arms as my hands pulled the wheel "down" towards my lap. Camlocks are more "streamlined" in my opinion. Part of the reason for the L7L for me was $$. They were a lot cheaper at the time. Later I used Camlocks and prefered the ease of latching (no required latching order, for instance).

I prefer pull up lap belts. It just depends on how the belt fits thru the holes in the seat, I mount my seats low so I don't have a lot of room between the side of the seat and the sill/trans tunnel so pull up works easier for me.

I have the G-Force belts and love them.

Their pull down model is FIA approved, which is a plus if you have a sanctioning body enforcing replacement cycles. Tthe SFI-approved belts have a 2-year life, compared to FIA's 5-year span. I think their pull-up model might only be SFI-approved.

I would also recommend the 6-point harness over the 5-point.

Jack, how are you doing the 6-pt? Are you sitting on the sub straps or are they to the floor?

I have the 5-points. My next set will be 6-point, though, based on some of what I've read since I got the other set. I'll mount the 6-point belts to the floor, probably with some additional reinforcement.

Get the Schroth Profi IIs. They can be configured by the user either way...

I have pull-up camlock 5-point G-Force harnesses and love 'em. You absolutely can't beat the value (yeah yeah, I know, don't pinch pennies when it comes to safety). I highly recommend the pull-up style despite the lack of an FIA rating.

A lot has been said on this forum that the stiffness of the G-Force webbing makes it difficult to tighten 'em down, but G-Force must've solved that problem because I don't have any issues.

Just to add to the fun, I've always preferred pull downs.

Hey;

I have never had enough room between the seat holes and the latch to use pull downs effectively, especially with Simpsons. With pull downs I had to run the belts over the side bolsters, not through the side holes. Now with the full cage, door bars, containment seat, etc., pull ups are the only way.

Schroth Hybrid 3/2 HANS here. Best belt system made.

Pull ups. You'd never get pull down lap belts to work in a Recaro Pro Racer seat.

The camlock part of the G-Force is fine. The pull-down part however is really tough to adjust IMO. I Have Sparco Pro 2000's and with where the hole in the seat is relative to the mounting point it is a real tedious process. Luckily though it's strictly a one driver car and my waistline doesn't vary that much - once they are st they stay put for a while

I also have Schroth HANS hybrid pull up now. I like them a lot better than the standard Schroth pull down.

Schroth pull up. 2 inch lap belts and a pull up system seem to be much more secure than the 3 inch pull down I used previously.
