I've noticed you can get hoods and doors in foam core and non-foam core FRP. I'm assuming the foam core is thicker, stiffer, and stronger, but was wondering if anyone used the non-foam-core versions and how they like them. They would seem lighter and cheaper, and how much energy is a typical FRP body part (a la getty, gt-racing, not F1) really going to absorb anyway?

The foam core Getty hood is a very nice piece and doesn't bend at speed. This is the difference between a foam core part and a non foam core part. My Getty doors are not foam core and are also very nice pieces.

As an illustration, if you click on the "Willow Springs" link in my signature, the video that comes up will show a fiberglass hood burping in at speed. My hood is lighter weight than a normal one, but it's annoying what the burping does, over time, to the paint.

Hey;
Definitely the foam core. Much more longevity. Vibration takes its toll on the non-rigid stuff, and it comes apart. Then there's the paint, like Jack said.
