Towing with Tacoma
#2
I have a 1999 Tacoma 3.4L 6Cyl 2WD Automatic.
I have used it to pull my 1800lb trailer and 911 Turbo to 2 track events so far.
My trailer has 4 wheel electric brakes and I added a second transmission cooler to the truck.
I have a load leveling hitch with a sway bar on it, and I have had no trouble pulling with my truck. It is slow on takeoff, but most of my driving to the track has been on the interstate, with no trouble. Once I get rolling I can roll at 70-75mph without any trouble.
Picture shown is me experimenting with new trailer and the load levelers are not being used. That is why the truck is sitting low in the rear. With the load levelers the truck is almost level.
My .02.

Nice setup. While we're on this thread, has anybody towed with a VW Eurovan? The 2000 and later have a 201 HP VR6 with 181 ft/lb of torque and VW claims a 4400# max tow weight. My '71 weighs 2280# and a trailex aluminum trailer weighs around 750# so I should have plenty of excess capacity but would love to hear if anyone has BTDT.

I have a 98 V6 Tacoma 4x4, and used it to tow a 85 Toyota 4x4 from San Franciso to Stillwater Oklahoma on a U-Haul tow dolly. No problem at all.
If I remember correctly it has a 5000 lb towing capacity with the apropriate hitch.

I tow a 3080lb 968 on a 900Lb Trailex open trailer with my 2001 4-Runner 4WD auto without too much strain. I tow in the northeast (hills/mountains) and find I can't use cruise control because it hunts for gears constantly. I can run about 60-70 mph consistently, with the exception of steep hills. Honestly I would prefer more power, but it works. Power problem is easily solved with a TRD blower...TRD Supercharger
