I am dealing with this now. I spoke with my State Farm agent (in Illinois). She mailed me a copy of my current policy and there is NOTHING in it re: racing/DE - nothing.

I told her all about the DE stuff.

Apparently, State Farm has a "Racing Exclusion" you, as the insured person can sign. It is added to your policy and states you will not (and I don't have it in front of me, but from what I recall) take part in any prearranged races or contests. Basically, nothing that is a competitive race. I had my attorney review the info and he gave it a thumbs up.

My agent had me fax a copy of the ACNA (Audi Club of North America) rules for DE and a copy of the sign-up sheets for the events I'm doing this year. All of that stuff specifically states these events are not races and the activities are in no way racing schools. She attached the description of what I was doing along with the "racing exlusion" and sent it to the "home office". It's all on-file there.

Maybe it's not perfect (ie: a document from them saying it's OK to do DE) but it's something, in writting, that tells them what I plan to do and what I plan NOT to do. Better than nothing, IMO.

I got a call back from the guy at Laurel... For my RSA for DE only (30 days/year), he quoted $1450 with a $10,000 deductible. The deductible is what really struck me as high. But he told me that they got hit pretty hard with DE claims last year.

I wonder if any other company will start offering DE insurance, Laurel shouldn't be the only game in town.

Doubtful, as their only competition was AC and THEY are bailing.. Bet there is a run on the older cars to be used for DE in the coming years, it's the direction I went once the addiction became obvious to me.. 997S was too much to wad for me..

I am going to go the same way - not worth self insuring a 90K car... But a 15k car...

Hey, you can even to better than that. We picked up an 89 944S2 in great shape - for $4,500. Just adding a few things to make it track ready...

Psssst - The Boxster is Dead! And thank you Nationwide.

I have 13 or 14 days on my 20 day Laurel DE policy left over that I am going to sell. I had asked for a refund, but they don't offer refunds for cancellation. David told me I could sell it to someone else if I would like. It is a $105,000 policy with a 15% deductible. I had it for my 2004 GT3 which is now sold. I paid $2940 for the policy. I will sell the remaining 13 or 14 days (pretty sure it is 14) for $1400.00. PM or email me if interested.
David from Laurel can verify this can be done if you have any doubts.
