Post Old Brake Pad topic

Is anyone out there using Performance Friction 97 compound race pads on the track?

If so, how do they compare to Pagid Blues (4-2's) or Pagid Oranges?

I have been using Pagid Oranges at my local track (CMP) where there is alot of heavy braking. But I have been using Pagid Blues at VIR where there is not as much braking required.

If anyone out there is using PF97's, I'd appreciate your thoughts/comparisons to the Pagid Oranges and Pagid Blues.

I called Performance Friction today, but to be quite honest, the customer service guy I spoke with was useless. He said he wasn't familiar with Pagid pads (see what I mean). Therefore, I seek first hand info from useful people (like you).

Thanks,

Brian Keith Smith

Have you been "seating" the pads after you first install them? If you have, do your pads still squeal on the streets? Also, how do you like Oranges, and which stretch do you do your "seating"? I will be swapping pads soon for CMP, and my original pads are still good, but there is quite a bit if shimmying after the rotors get really hot.

I've run Pagid Oranges on 911SC brakes, 930 Turbo brakes, and 964 brakes. In all cases, proper bedding was done and edges filed at 45 degree angle. Have always used slotted rotors with the oranges (never had any pad deposit issues). On the SC I left the Oranges in all the time, and got a wisp of a squeal here and there. On the 930 brakes, they squealed like a goosed pig all the time (except when hot on the track), so on the street I used Metalmasters, which were fine. On the 964 I get a little light noise sometimes, certainly bearable.

Thumbs up

I switched from 90s (ate rotors) to pagid orange, nice linear feel, to PF 97 which I like even better then the orange. To me 97 seem to have longer life, but can't say for sure. OG Racing sells PF, not Pagid. Now have one event slotted rotors and old 97s. Old slotted rotors lasted through Pagids, and most of 97s life. PFs grab unevenly when not fully up to temp. Soon I am due for new pads, next event is 3.5 days.

I always bed the Oranges on a stretch of road near my house about a day or 2 before the event - if it is a new set of pads.

What I'm really looking for is someone that has used both the PF97's and the Pagid Blues or Oranges. I'm trying to find out how they compare. I don't care how much the squeal or how much noise they make. I'm only looking for track use only so noise is irrelevant. What I do care about is stopping power, and any correlations between the 3 types of pads, as well as rotor wear comparisons. Pagids seem to be fairly easy on rotors, and PF90's (not 97s) in the past have been very hard on my rotors. But, they're half the price, and that is why I am raising the question here. I'm just trying to get a feel for whether or not I could go back to PF's and possibly save some money while maintaining similar performance.

Alan, thanks for your response, it appears that you like the PF97s.

Brian
