A little history: This 934 was raced by the late Milt Minter (Vasek Polak team) at The 2004 Tribute to LeMans at California Speedway, and at Riverside Int. Raceway in the late 80's.

Very sweet car indeed. Though I'd prefer a video with flat-6 music..

Thanks Jack!

"This product of Porsche's competition department first appeared on the grid in 1976, and in the first phase of it's career at least, struck terror into most of it's drivers."

"About 30 934's came from the factory in 1976 at a cost of 97,000 German Marks. These new GT cars were based on the Porsche 930, with a turbo charged engine. This was the racing version that became the type 934, with the 4 meaning Group 4. Wheel width was limited to 14 inches and rim width to 12.5 inches.

The rear wing was kept to a minimum, unlike the 935 above. Engine size was ruled no greater than 4 liters and a minimum weight of 2470 lbs. was laid down. The engine allegedly delivered up to 580hp and 300km/h+ (185+) could be seen on the speedo."

It was at the race track in Hockenkeim, during the 6 hour event that was one of the heats of the constructors' world championship. "This car is a brute - you have to watch it like a hawk!' commented Edgar Doren. Manfred Schurti said "it is not as bad as that! But keep the throttle open when you're braking, so that the boost pressure builds up. And brake early - the car is heavy!"

In the races for the 1976 manufacturers' world championship, and in '77 and '78 too, the 934 Turbo always performed well. Although there was only one overall win (Heimrath/Miller in the Mosport (Canada) 6 hour race in 1977), the cars were always among the first ten in the overall category that was dominated by the Porsche 935 works cars (driven by Ickx, Mass, Stommelmen, and Schurti) and the BMW CSL competition cars.

Quoted from "Porsche Turbo - The Full History of the Race and Production Cars by Peter Vann."

Hope this was interesting history for all you Rennlisters

This was an event run by http://www.speedventures.net/

I did not check my times, I was basically testing the car after a new turbo install.

It looks a lot like an IROC car....
A comparison to a modern day cup car or a GT2 in race trim would be really interesting...I think Bill Auberlen turned a 1:18 in a 2005 cup car (don't quite remember the details though)

That car was for sale for a long time, at a good price too. Looks like a lot of fun!
