Post Harness

OK. I bought a used BK harness bar from someone who upgraded to a roll bar. Here's what it looks like: BK Harness bar .

My car is still a frequent driver and I'm not quite ready to give it the "track monster" look with roll bars and bright red belts. I did due diligence in searching the archives for a 6 point harness. I found recommendations for Sparco - TRW/Sabelt, and for Schroth. I found a Sparco source, but can't find Schroth.

Where's is the best place to get the harnesses? Where can I get Schroth? Any other recommendations?

Thanks!

Try www.racerwholesale.com
They sell Sabelt and G-Force harnesses. I have a set of 6-point G-force harnesses, and really like them. They are available in other colors besides red.

BTW: I have my belts mounted so most of the pieces (shoulder harness and outside lab-belt) can be removed, so it doesn't look like I'm "boy-racer" driving down the highway!

I've got a BKbar system for the 02 C2 and I cut the carpet around the mounting plates on the rear deck, then fit it back around them. I can remove the bar or install it in about 20 minutes. No boy racer look there!! The BK seat belt mounts are very unobtrusive.

Removeable belts are readily available from many companies (I have Teamtech in black, and they go well with a Graphite Grey). It's up to you.

I leave the six point/under the seat straps under the seat unless it will be a few weeks between DEs. It's not that they are that hard to remove, it's just that I'm too lazy to want to do it every time I take out the bar and race belts!

Thanks, all.

I ended up calling Northstar and talking to John, the owner. Nice guy. I told him I knew next to nothing about harnesses except that I needed them if I wanted to get serious on the track. He took me through all the choices. I also found out I bought the wrong harness bar!!! . I need the BK that will fit a 996 with the Bose, and the one I bought will only fit the 996 without the Bose. Hopefuly the previous owner will take it back. I ended up with the 6 point Shroth in black and a brand new BK harness bar.

Palting,

Wow, on my 99 this was never an issue (no Bose system available back then). I didn't know there was any difference. Thanks for warning us. What is it about the Bose system that requires a different harness bar design?

Karl,

The Bose system has the sub-woofer behind the rear seats. The non-Bose BK bar, part number 1030, apparently can't be used due to that. They recommend the BK bar used for the 996 cab, part number 1029. I checked with the BK web site, and sure enough, they recommend the 1029 part number for the Bose equiped car, not the 1030.

I got the black Schroth's from John too. They're kind of a stealth set up with my black roll bar, very little boy-racer look. You will like them.

In the Chicago area? Going to Blackhawk and Road America?

10-4. Winter is way too long for track rats in these northern climates. My season begins in 2 weeks

I have purchased tons of stuff from Kevin Kann at Northstar this past year for personal and work use. Those guys are great and I have had nothing but awesome customer service. Giving credit where credit is due! Thanks!
