Recomended Gloves?
#2
My omp gloves with leather palms always get hard and crunchy after they dry out from a race day. Then when I race again the first session is always a slick steering wheel until the gloves get a bit sweaty and the leather gloves start gripping the leather wheel. Is there any cure for the initially slick leather palmed gloves?

I like the basic Sparco model with the suede-like gripping surface. No crusty-problems yet, but I haven't sweat a ton into them yet. Gloves will be the cheapest thing you'll buy in this racket so don't "sweat" them too much

I've had leather palmed and know exactly what dried out, slippery feels like although it generally fine by the end of the first run. I like the Sparco suede better and they don't dry out. Most important thing to me however would be to try them on to make sure they fit perfectly.

Whatever brand of gloves you buy, I recommend buying gloves which conform to the new FIA 8856 standard.
This new-for-last-year rule requires two layers of Nomex throughout the glove and limits pretty sharply the amount of leather which can be used on the palm (leather deforms in a fire). The result is a much softer glove than the old padded style and one that offers better protection, too. (vs. one-layer gloves).
At first, I was apprehensive about such a soft and unpadded glove but, having used them for a full season, I would never go back to the old style - they were so much more comfortable.
I chose the Puma Pro-Fit Cat gloves, but the Sparcos/OMPs/etc I've seen which conform to FIA 8856 look pretty similar.
Regards to all.

I have tried a lot of them. My favorites remain my Stand 21 pair, because they seem thinner for more feel, and are always soft & pliable regardless of how much I sweat or how dry/cold it is outside.

I have used all of the above gloves mentioned and particularly enjuyed the OMP but if you get a chance to try on a pair of Oakley gloves I am sure you will buy them.

yup. And after watching GhettoRacer's on track videos, I suspect his gloves look like this:
