1992 cup car

The answer is yes, if you are talking about a US Carerra Cup .The rules state that you can remove only the interior pieces that interfer with the installation of the roll cage. The headliner is not one. Also the car must run with the carpets, except for the floor mats.

Yep - Carpets and headliners must be intact - if you are looking for weight savings the following options are open to you
1. the knee bar interfers with a 6 point cage and can be removed (20 pounds)
2. the front and rear bumpers can be replaced with light weight copies - they are heavy (30-50 pounds each)
3. you can add an RSA rear tail and be legal in D stock - use an all carbon peice to reduce weight
4. lightweight wheels
5. the rear parcel shelf can be removed (interferance with the cage again)
6. light weight seats
7. the fog lights can be replaced with ducts to the front brakes
8. you can run a small splitter on the front - we'll see if this gets tagged as an upgrade however, but i do have a mail stating it's ok but opipions differ. this is actually more of a vortex generator for the brake ducts - IMHO - delivering a stream of high pressure air to the duct opening. i do not have anything to back this up, however.
9. you can change the shocks and springs of course and add cambar plates
that's about it i think....and you will need to ballast the car back up to 2760 (if i remember correctly for that class)
oh yeah....
you have to leave the front deck lid in place (But it's aluminium and very light)
All IMHO and i reserve the right to get smarter since i could be wrong...

Just my two cents.... but everyone I have spoken to that races these Cups have had to bring them "up" to weight not "down". My car, stock with a matter cage and two race seats, was far less than the 2760 on an empty tank. I have had to add weight. Make sure you add it to an empty car in case you do a long race.

i am using the Carbon units from GT racing - they fit pretty well and once painted look stock. They do require a fair bit of body work to make them look as good as the orignal ones though.

Items # 154 & 159 and the small carbon splitters # 150
i am still trying to decide on a rear wing either an RSR 3.8 wing - (not legal in D stock but OK for AutoX and the onelap) or a RSA style spoiler (OK for all) any thoughts anyone? does the 3.8 bring a signifiant amount of downforce over the RSA spoiler to warrent it for autoX

Rob:
I had a 930 that I ran a 3.8 wing on. I spent an entire day at the tarck running different wing settings and the the only place I could tell a major difference between the RS 3.8 and the regular tail was in the high speed corners. Over 100mph.
I run a RSA tail on my Cup. For the Onelap, you might try the RS wing and RSA for PCA racing.

The 3.8 wing is extremely helpful in the bank turns such as we ran at Pikes Peak in Speedvision. It will cost you speed going into the banked turn from a straight but you will definitely carry more out of the straight. I truly believe that you will benefit from the wing at speeds as low as 75 mph which happen alot more than owners are aware. If you want to kind of see what it will look like on your car go to page 26 in GT racings 2002 catolog. I have the cup car it is pictured on, also a different pic at the same event on previous post of "lets see you cars" page 3

Thanks for all the replies - i think i might go with the 3.8 wing for the one lap and Solo II (where i will spend most of my time - Damn work getting in the way of fun ) that leaves me with the retractable for PCA races (hopefully portland x2 and LV this year).
seems to be the best comprimise at the moment.
