Question PCA UPDATE - Composite Seats and Seat back braces

I just looked through the 2003 Club Racing news and saw that Seats and Seat back braces must be installed per mfg instructions and the scurtineers will be checking this.

My question is how do you pass tech with an FIA seat that does want holes drilled in for obvious reasons or is even designed to work with a seat back brace?

PCA still requires them, but they cannot be installed per mfg specs so it seems like you can't win.

I know SCCA does not require them anymore for FIA seats, but the lack of PCA rules change and this "install per mfg requirements" really seems contradictory.

I have sent an Email in to Donna Amico (Chief Scrutineer) who wrote the column about having scutineers check and to Lance Weeks the Tech and Rules Chair to try to understand how I pass through tech and convince any local scrutineer I am safe.

Anybody else have any Ideas?

I an planning on running in the PCA club race here Phoenix at the end of February and want to know be able to be legal.

Thanks

I think Joseph Heller wrote a very good book about that question a few years ago!

Have been in touch with both Lance Weeks and Donna Amico on this. They have provide some useful information. I am still not 100% certain so I am still in discussion with them.

<img border="0" alt="[soapbox]" title="" src="graemlins/soapbox.gif" /> Just to vent a little here but I find it amazing that my car ran the Supercup series, Daytona in '99 & I don't know how many Porsche Club Italia races in Italy WITHOUT a seat back brace at all & now it's an issue.
