Post So, what's your favorite track?

Just got back from an excellent DE at Lime Rock this past weekend, and got to thinking: what are your favorite tracks and why?

To make it interesting, here's three categories:
1. Favorite track from the ones you've been to. And why it's your favorite.
2. Favorite tracks (pick 1-3) you have yet to visit
3. Favorite all-time dream track.

So here's mine:
1. Favorite track I've played on:
Lime Rock Park. My track experience is very, very limited, (Pocono, The Glen, & Lime Rock) but Lime Rock is by far my favorite. Lime Rock is an extremely technical track, despite the 'simplicity' of the setup. And: I drive a lower hp car, and there's no room at Lime Rock for faster cars to really pull away! At Lime Rock, in order to go fast, one has to execute every turn perfectly! The line at Lime Rock is easy to learn, but takes a lifetime to master! Plus the setting is so pristine, so beautiful! Truly, it is the "Secret Valley of Racing"

2. Tracks I'd like to visit:
1. Laguna Seca: The corksrew. 'Nuff said.
2. Road Atlanta: sounds like a scary track! I like a challenge!
3. Mid-Ohio: Looks like another technically challenging track!

3. The ULTIMATE TRACK for me:
Nurburgring. (Of course, getting an invitation to LeMans would also be an ULTIMATE dream come true!)

I'm curious: what are your favorites?
-Zoltan.

A. All of them!

Lime Rock, for my ability to stay with the big horsepower cars

The Glen, well becasue it's the Glen

Mid Ohio, every lap is a learning experience

VIR, Oak Tree onto the straight

Pocono, because it's close

B. I can only pick three :-(

Luguna Seca for reasons already stated

Sebring

Road Atlanta

C. the ultimate track experience would have to be LeMans, sort of the un-obtainable grail

Glad to here you had a great time at Lime Rock.
My father drove his 912 there back in the 60's.
Just like you he would take his street car out there and just run around. He said it was great fun.

My favorite that I have driven...
Well I have not driven too many tracks (total of 5 local ones) and none of them are the "great tracks". Out here there are far too many compromise tracks.

Tracks that I want to drive (that I actuly could)
1) Willow Springs - I really want to check it out. It may not be the best, but it is very close. (Next spring maybe??)
2) Sears Point - Next Year's PCA Club Race??
3) Laguna Seca - PCA Club Race next Year.

Tracks that I would really like to drive , but probably will not.

1) Spa
2) Norschiefe - My dad did 3laps in a 3cyl Opel rental car a few years ago. Even passed and Audi
3) Mid Ohio
4) Sebring
5) Watkins Glen - Long Course
6) Lime Rock
7) Road America
8) Road Atlanta
9) VIR - Long & The longer of the two short tracks
10) Mosport

1) VIR Long Course: The uphill esses, the oak tree, the roller coaster, what else can I say? Tied for 2nd, Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen.

2) Road Atlanta, Laguna Seca, Road America

3) Spa-Francorchamps, The Nurburgring, Monza

Bridgehampton. This track was closed around 1998 to be replaced with a golf course. (BLECHHH!) Greatest because of it's high speed, vast sprawling nature, ups and downs, bumps, and overall character. The downhill was awe inspiring.

2. The Glen, Big, bad and every time I go I get better, that's a reason, right??!!

4. Mt. Tremblant, SMOOOOTH, Very challenging, Great food nearby.

Tracks I'd like to drive:
1. Laguna Seca, reasons stated above.
2. Road America, Why, It's four miles!!!
3. Road Atlanta, I love elevation change..

Hey Zoltan,

Was that you on my tail or vice versa at LRP this weekend?

If you were following me, I hope I was polite enough to let to pass whenever possible. If, on the other hand, I was passing you, I hope I did so in a reasonably safe manner.

See you next time! :-)

Richard, If you were in the Yellow run group, I believe we tangled a couple of times this weekend. I do remember a red 911 in my group, and remember passing one at one point: it could have been you. But IIRC, we were very closely matched!
(BTW: I was the guy who made the comment at the driver's meeting about lifting to let others pass: "My car may look like a turbo, but it isn't!")
If you were infront of me, then I certainly had no problem with any pass signal you gave me. And if you were ever behind me, if you were on my bumper, that's cool too. I just hope that I gave you good clean and polite passing signals.

I'll check my video: I believe I followed you for a couple of laps. If I have it on video, I'll get a copy to you!

Regards,

Z,

I remember your comment . . . I chuckled as did everyone else in the room. I'm the guy who stated that I had some very specific things I wanted to work on (on Saturday) in preparation for Metro-New York's DE on September 25!

Speaking strictly from a power standpoint, your car would be more evenly matched with a stock 3.2L '87 Carrera, than with a 300 hp 3.6L. But, your superior (compared to mine at least)driving skills would make up for a lot at LRP! :-)

Hope to see you again soon.

1. Favorite track I've played on:
I've only driven East Coast tracks, so...
1) Road Atlanta. I ran the old configuration and it was an absolute joy. Technical, scary, fun fun fun, huge elevation changes, lonnnnnng straight, just a BLAST.
2) (I'm certain that I'll be alone on this) NHIS/Loudon using neither of the NASCAR banks. IMHO similar to but better than Lime Rock. I give it extra points because I've driven this with the California Superbike School as well.
3) Summit Point (I'll probably be alone on this as well.)

2. Tracks I'd like to visit:
1) Indianapolis road course
2) Laguna Seca
3) Revised Road Atlanta

3. The ULTIMATE TRACK for me:
Le Mans

You know, I am a little surprised that my "local" track is on nobodys list. SUMMIT POINT. Great driving track. Not a country club like VIR but as far as having a exciting coexistance with your P car friends this is my first choice. 2nd & 3rd are VIR.

Tracks are like exciting women... never mind.

Hi Geoffrey,

I'm not at LRP again until 9/25 with Metro (had to cancel the folowing day with Jersey Shore). Hell, I'd drive up just to hear your turbo roaring down the front straight; unfortunately, I'm reminded that I supposed to work every now and then! I'm really sorry I won't get to see you at the track this year (unless something comes together for us later this Fall). :-(

Vinny,

Do we dare divulge where to get the BIGGEST Philly cheesesteak sandwich in the State of Pennsylvania?

Bill, check a few posts up. I listed it as #3 on my list. I thought I'd be alone on it. I've only run on it two days, but the tight infield is just terrific. Overall, a great, fairly technical track with a nice mix of tight turns, fast sweepers and a pretty good straight. I had a terrific time and will be back.

Hi Rich!

Ummmmmm, I think not. I hate to have these guys spend $2000 on their carbon fiber weight reductions, only to blow it all on one sandwich.
