The shakles give room for movement of the clip while simply trying to clip to the frame does not provide enough room (from the clips of the straps I was using). The shackles work fine but can also cause some rubbing on a really low car. I now use the tow hook (relocated to front center on my car) and straps through the wheels but with the D-rings mounted outboard of the wheels so there is no rub. I use the Autometrics rear attachments.
