Ed,

There are two courses referred to as Car Control Clinics. There is a one day drving school, which is car control, and there is an advanced class called Car Control - that one required the two day street school or 3 day race school as a pre-requisite (or other similar experience).

If you are talking about the advanced class, I have done that. You drive trucks, neons, vipers and the formula car - most of the time is in the formula car. It is a great class and I highly recommend it. I don't know anything about the other class.

I did the racing school a few years back. It was an absolute blast and I did learn a thing or 2. Also did a few lapping days/races afterwards until I ran out of cash. I'd say absolutely go for it, it was well worth the money. My fondest memory from that is still going into big bend at LRP 3 wide during the first race. Probably took a few days to come down from that adrenaline high! I also did the advanced car control. You learn to control a car on a skidpad, run a Viper through an autocross and other asorted fun. On the regular car control class you run the slalom, skidpad and learn how to brake. Should be mandatory before getting a license in this country. <img src="graemlins/soapbox.gif" border="0" alt="[soapbox]" />

3-day race school was a blast and worth the $2500 (it might be more now) tuition.

I took the 3 day racing school at Road America and it was well worth it. That was 2 years ago in the Formula Dodge(open wheel) cars. I returned to my office depressed that I had to leave the track. So I bought a 86 951 2 days after I returned and the following week was at a PCA drivers ed at Blackhawk. A bit a advice, get drivers shoes or wrestling shoes ($19 Sport Mart)before you go. If they are still using the straight cut gear trannys that you have to double clutch, learn how to do it before you go. About half the class had big problems learning how to do this. Have fun! Jim

You shouldn't have to double clutch. I'm surprised they teach that. Heck, with the straigh cut gears you should be able to easily shift w/o the clutch. I did several times at Spenard when I went there and drive the Reynard SF86. Double clutching is an old technique that nobody uses anymore.
