As you would be in a diesel Excursion. It is nothing more than a full bodied 3/4 ton pickup truck. I was refering to the typical 1/2 ton Suburbans, Expeditions, Range Rovers, and even pickups. The 3/4 ton rating puts you in a whole 'nother league.

Naw, already bought a Gayenne S for my wife. This'll be able to drag your Yukon around easily. Care to have a pull off?

Oh, and what are you overcompensating for with that enormous truck?

Who says that I'm overcompensating? I just may need room to stretch out!

Couldn't wait. I needed the tax write-off for 2006, and the Dodge comes with bigger brakes, rack & pinion steering and a pre-emissions diesel motor.

Probably a good move.
The 6.0L Powerstroke has a single EGR valve. I have already had it replaced under warranty (check engine light) due to the valve sticking, residue due to low cetane fuel. I now run cetane booster with each fillup (4oz/25 gallons).
The upcoming 6.4L Powerstroke is supposed to have FOUR EGR valves. The new Cummins is supposed to come with a urea tank in the exhaust to help reduce emissions. I haven't heard what Duramax is supposed to be doing for emissions.
Also, with ultra low sulfur diesel fuel, there is an issue with lubricity (if that's a word), so the engines run a bit hotter and get a bit less fuel mileage. For those of us in the Northeast, it gets even worse in the winter when they blend the diesel fuel to prevent gelling.

I miss the old 7.3L Powerstroke in the wife's 00 Excursion, but she wanted an 05 when she heard they were shutting down the line.

Sorry. FTW is internet punk slang for "for the win". It suggests that this is the best choice or solution.

I was expressing my personal opinion, having driven all 3 current 2007 model diesel 4 door pickups--Dodge, GM, and Ford--that the GM solution was by far the best in so many ways.

One day I will learn to type, and will also learn to review my posts BEFORE posting them.

I'm about to go into my first winter with the PSD, does the booster work? What brand do you use?

I currently use Ford Motorcraft cetane boost (red cap) from the Ford parts department. IIRC, it is about $6/bottle, 20pz so it's good for 125 gallons (4oz per 25 gallons).
If your diesel supplier does NOT use blended fuel during the winter, then you can purchase the blue cap, which has anti gel as well.

If you are in doubt as to your diesel supplier's cetane rating, your local Ford dealer can sample the fuel currently in your vehicle and measure the cetane. When the wife's CEL came on due to the stuck/sticky EGR, the measured cetane was 38....they recommend 42 minimum. No, I couldn't find this in the manual and VERY few stations actually post cetane ratings like they do for octane (gas).

Stanadyne is another often used/discussed diesel fuel additive.

+1 for Stanadyne, I use it in year round in my PSD and Volksy TDI. I note a 1.0 mile per gallon difference over the first 20,000 miles vs. last 40,000 miles.

The PSD has 276,000 miles but I don't know what the first 265,000 miles were like.

Both smoke less on start up and it's supposed to lube the injectors. Could be snake oil but I notice a difference.
