If a four time World Rally Champion's last name is hangover (Kankkunen), what do you expect?!
BTW, Jean Todt was a co-driver to Ari Vatanen, another Finnish Rally Champion so he obviously has some inside info about Finnish drinking habits (although Vatanen was/is know for his not drinking habits).

$20 bucks says that there will be stories about Kimi frolocking at a Maranello pub in the wee hours of the morning during the season. People will wonder if he has the commitment it takes to be a World Champion.
Fast forward to 2008 after Kimi has won his 1st World Title for Ferrari. Stories about Kimi frolocking at a Maranello pub in the wee hours of the morning during the season are looked upon as "just some good fun". It makes the Ice Man more human, very spirited in the stressful world of F1. The papers create a public persona of one who drives fast cars, fast women, and booze out to be the modern James Dean. Too stiff was the cold, sterile world of Corporate McLaren and Ron Dennis. That is why he never won a WC with them. Ferrari is much more Kimi's style and he has flourished under the Cavellino.

i'd rather say he will be more "james hunt" than "james dean"

agreed. can you imagine if in today's corporate sponsorship world someone had an 'UNpaid for' patch like that and just plop down on his car drinking (not the celebratory gulp of bubbly, but rather the "after the race refreshment" type) and smoking?
guess those days are mostly gone... but it was fun

If there's anyone in today's F1 who has 1/10th of the habits of James Hunt days. of F1, I love it. F1 needs more personalities.
P.S. Have you noticed on podium how Kimi always takes a sip from the champagne bottle before spraying? That's the proper way IMO.

Those days are gone forever. But if there was someone to come along like that, the fans would lap it up. The driver would be an instant icon. Who knows, Kimi could be that guy, if he wasn't so boring behind a mike.
BTW Flying Finn, Speed TV, specifically Steve Machett has always made reference to Kimi's swigs before the spraying. I'm sure he, and Hobbs to a greater extent, are part of those fun filled days of the past.
I believe McLaren referred to Kimi's swigs in the past as "The initial start to properly rehydrating oneself after a long, hot and humid drive"...
