944 Cup News-- National Championship
NASA and the 944 Cup Series reached an agreement that will include the 944 Cup as a National Class for the NASA Championship at Mid Ohio for 2007 and beyond.
Essentially the 944 Cup series will continue to be operated independently as in the past. Nothing will change in the operation of the Series or Regional Chapters. NASA will include two 944 Cup National Classes. The rules for the NASA National Classes, minus any reference to PCA or SCCA rules, will be identical to the 944 Cup rules.
This arrangement allows the 944 Cup to continue to operate as in the past and still be a part of the NASA Nationals at Mid Ohio and enjoy the benefits of being a part of that event. NASA will have the Nationals at Mid Ohio for at least the next 4 years starting in 2007. As with 2006, it will take 5 NASA races to qualify for the Nationals.

Dave,
Since PCA SP spec is using the '44 cup rules, will PCA club races in SP3 count towards the 5 required races?
Either way, I intend to have the necessary 5 race minimum for next year's nationals.

The 5 races must be Cup races done with NASA to qualify for the Nationals. PCA SP races will not count towards the 5 required. Good to hear you plan to be there in 2007.

Dave,
Under NASA rules last year, you could race in any race group to get your 5 races ( 5 GTS races, or any combo of races withing NASA) I was thinking of running in both GTS and 944 cup at Nationals next year. Do you think that would be possible if I get my 5 races in GTS next year?? Aside from having to meet the sponsorship sticker rules for 944 cup, do you see any problem entering both races next year if my car meets the tech specs of 44cup?

A few GTS 944 racers have asked the same question after this year's National. I see no problem with you running both the 944 Cup and GTS at the Nationals. The 5 GTS races will qualify u to race the 944 Cup National class also. Great idea.

Thanks Dave,
After I looked at the times from MO last year vs my GTS-2 times, I kicked myself for not entering in cup as well. I dont think I will have a easy time next year! I came by the 44 paddock looking for you at Nationals but never got a chance to meet you. Looking forward to a full field of supercups next season!

Hi Guys,
I did pick up an S2 last week. It was pretty much spur of the moment decision, but seemed to make sense from a lot of perspectives, mostly that it is a proven and very fresh car coming from a very reputable shop. Most of my PCA buddies run in F and it will be much more fun to run head to head against them and all of the other very good drivers in that class.
If I were to run my turbo w/NASA next year it would have likely been w/the stock chip in GTS 2 where it would have been extremely competitive to say the least.
The Midwest schedule looks great! So yes, I'll be out there next year playing with the GTS 2 gang.
Congrats on the director postition Chris.
