Wait, you are karting for your first time in a shifter kart?

Have fun with that

What motor/frame is it?

I have been on the track 2-3 times per week in a 125 rotax and a 125 rotax 2 speed. That has helped a lot but I'm sure the learning curve will be steep.

The chassis is a CRG road rebel with a ICC Maxter engine.

I not racing at this point kust running with other club members.

My son (13) runs an FR125. The jump from FR125 to ICC (shifter) is HUGE.
There is no Porsche that can behave like a shifter kart. You're going to be doing laps in the kart as if you were on a skid pad.
Please make sure you have done a proper seat fitting and wear a rib vest/protector.

i would sell my car in a heartbeat to keep racing karts, but i'd lose all the sexiness of a 911 and i wouldn't have a fun car to drive on the street...occasionally. ok maybe never now that it's seen <10 street miles in the past year.

Everything will transfer. Everything happens so fast in a kart that when you get into your Porsche you will feel like it's in slow motion. The grip level is obviously the biggest thing as nothing handles like a kart aside from an open wheel racer.

Conversely, what you've learned in a car will transfer to a kart. Call it cross-training.

The CRG Road Rebel chassis is a great platform. I used to have a CRG Kali, but it couldn't hold a candle to the Road Rebel. Build up those forearm muscles as you'll be steering with one hand and shifting with the other --- all the time.

I will get to drive the new kart on Sunday if the weather holds out. I got fitted for the seat yesterday and the rib protector came in today!!!! Running karts is definately motivation to work out to get/stay in shape.

You will get your work out on the track. I was out of a kart for 10 months and got into one again in the summer. I was huffing and puffing for a long time. You've heard of getting into "football" shape. Well there is something to say about getting into karting shape. I was definitely in better shape and lighter when I karted.

I had one when I was a five year old in South America in the late 70's.

I too would trade my Pcar for a shifter kart. I was looking at the easy kart's recently to keep
at my folks place in Florida. Too bad they left the country all together.

I really like your avatar Pete. I have a 4 year old and I want to get him into karting. Can you point me in the right direction? Websites? Early years series?

Ages 5-8 would run in the 'Bambino' or 'KidKart' series.
50cc 2cycle Comer engines, maybe 4hp.
We have a 4 1/2 year old girl and a few 5-6 year old boys at our local track.

After that you can run 80cc Comer in the Cadet class (8-12) or run in the Rotax FR125 MiniMax class.

Try www.ekartingnews.com and go to the forum sections.

Your in San Diego, right? Come down to Qualcomm stadium tomorrow (Nov. 4, 2006), there is a race on the SE section. You can't miss it. I'll be there (white trailer with green Toyota Tacoma tow vehicle). Ask for Pete and they'll direct you to my pits. My daughter was in the kid karts and now in the Jr. 1 division (80cc 2 stroke). I have some friends coming down as they are in the same boat your in with 4 and 5 year olds that want to get into it. Since my kid was in it for 3 years, I can answer any questions you may have and direct you to a guy that can get you a good used kart. Hope to see you there.

Look into the Rotax karts. They are a spec class, direct drive, little maintanence relatively speaking for 2 strokes and about 50 hours before a complete rebuild. The Rotax series has a huge participation rate as does the TAG classes, with national and international invitations races as well as club racing.

Thanks for the website. I'll have to do more research. I really think my guy will like it. Well, I would.
