Default Audi offers Schumacher $12.5m for LeMans ride.

Audi has already made a $12.5 million bid to reunite retiring Formula One driver Michael Schumacher with a race car.

According to the Cologne based 'Express' broadsheet, the German marque's competition boss Wolfgang Ullrich is hoping the offer will convince Schumacher - albeit with a personal fortune of more than half a billion dollars - to enter DTM or race at Le Mans.

The newspaper said $12.5m is more than the combined salary of all existing DTM drivers, including Schumacher's old F1 rival Mika Hakkinen.

But Ullrich cautioned: "I don't know if his contracts with Fiat and Ferrari would allow it."

37-year-old Schumacher's spokeswoman Sabine Kehm also played down the speculation, telling the BBC that he will 'miss the intensity (of racing) but really wants to let go for a while.'

A paltry $1.5625 million per hour (if he does a third of the driving)

or $26,000 a minute, a little less than 500 bucks a second

Schumacher drove the Mercedes GTP car. Even before he got into F1, if I recall.
I hope he goes for it.

It would be great to see Schumacher at Lemans.

Is there any way to watch the DTM races in the US? I saw a couple of them back before Fox bought Speedvision and they were pretty exciting.

They will start airing in the next month or so with one a week if they did what they did last year. Edited for time though.

I'll have to make sure to set the Tivo since Speed only likes to play roadracing before noon during the week.

Where is the link? A story came out earlier this year than BMW was going to offer Schumacher $1 billion or so to drive for them in F1.

I wish Schumacher would drive a privateer P1 at Le Mans next year. Perhaps the new Pescarolo with the new 5.5 liter Judd V-10.
