Here are a few pics that I took today. BTW I spotted myself in one of the previous pics lol
the cayman a few laps before it took to the tires
the cayman in the tires.....
One of my favorite cars the blue 968 CS
the # 69 968 was pretty fast with the # 308 SP2 944 of a friend in the background
I have many more pics but the enduros are tomorrow and we have to be at the track early to help put a clutch in a 944 lol

Colin:
Chris did figure out. He's a good driver with a strong car. I don't have any straight away speed. 152 is my top speed. Studying data, my perfect lap would be a mid @ 2:08 and I've gotten into the high 2:09's. I need to speak with Phil Blackstone to see what he's done with his 993 RS. Perfect weather today, should be a blast! Good luck.

Well two races and I've yet to see the checker at Daytona. Bothed ended with a black flag all. Still it was great fun and I really enjoyed meeting a bunch of Rennlisters.

Today was the enduros.
I went out in the warm-up. I did the first lap, and my car was not handling great, but it just seemed like cold tires. I continued on and floored it in the banking/straight. As I approached the busstop (at ~150mph in my car), I hit the brakes and had instantaneous lockup in the rear. I went sideways and slide straight down the track for what seemed like an eternity. Managed to escape unscathed, but it was quite interesting. Turned out my battery had shifted under braking and become disonnected and also damaged a brake line. This killed the power and disabled the abs. Since I was already at full brake force, I was still able to slow the car down. Anyway, after securing a new battery & fixing the brake line, I was all set. But it was one wild ride.
Next was the race. Charlie started 12th overall and 1st in GTC1. I started 20th overall and 1st in D. The first 20-25mins I had a good battle going with some C cars and B class GT3. I actually got to run with Larry for a few laps as he must have done his pit stop early. At about the 30 mins mark, I overcooked it a bit into T1 and went wide going into T2. I unfortunately ran out of track and hit the grass. Once I hit the grass I was dunfer. I kissed the tire wall at ~5mph doing very minor damage to rear bumper and the passenger side rear fender. Should bang out and buff out for the most part. At least it was a hundreds not thousands kinda incident.
The rest of the race was marred with yellows. there was actually a red flag for a huge crash into the busstop. The driver was fine, but the car was toast. After the race resumed, the was only one lap until another full course yellow. The race ended under yellow. After the dust had settled, Larry Herman took the overall win followed by Charlie Boyer in 2nd. Great job guys! I think many others were caught out by the yellows/red flag, but that's the luck of the enduros.
I didn't get to see much of the other races, but I think the top 3 in the first enduro were Hupfer, Iapaluccio and Grigsby. I didn't get to see much of the last enduro so I have no idea the results there.
Anyway, it was a great event with lots of nice people. It's also a great experience to run the high banks -- unlike anything else you have ever experienced.

Colin,
Glad you and the car are ok. Thanks for spending the time to keep the rest of Rennlist posted. I know how tired you must be at the end of each day and I appreciated the updates. Way to go Larry and Charlie.

Thanks guys. It was great to meet all the people from this list; JimB, Mike from Chi, Greg Fishman, and lots of others that I am forgetting. As far as the racing goes, JimB, Phil Blackstone, Chris Dooley & Tim Sanderson were flying, and it was all I could do to stay near them. Jim and Phil took off into the distance, Ernie and Tim got around me, and a few laps later Chris Dooley came storming by. It was then that Tim passed Ernie Jacobowski going into 3. Ernie went off wide in the kink at a very high speed, and went straight down the grass, across 5 and up into the tires. He almost hit Tim, who took evasive action, and went off at 5, allowing me to get past him while he was out mowing the grass. That's the way it ended.
The enduro was a bit of strategic planning, and lots of luck. First, today is my birthday, October 15th and I gridded 15th for the enduro. It had to happen. In the beginning, I was over driving the car, and fell back far enough to have to duke it out with Colin for a while. I got it back together and started running some good laps, and saw that I was getting better mileage than we figured. Since there had been so many crashes/stoppages in our group, I decided to stay out as long as possible, waiting for a yellow that I was certain would come. And it did, at the 65 minute mark when Phil's car unfortunately hit the wall in the busstop. I think that it was his co-driver, and he was unhurt. I came in and went down to our pit, number 1. They held us from going out for about 5 minutes, and when we were let go, I was able to leave first. It turns out that the pack was sitting out on the track for a lap as well, and so we lined up behind them, and after a few laps got the green. It only lasted for a lap, and then the yellow came out along with the black, and our race ended at about the 86 minute mark. Staying close to the leaders, and getting into the pits at the right time gave me the race.
It was an awesome time, and if you were thinking of going, then get it together for next year!

I, too, played the strategy well as I was feeling good and just stayed out. I was waiting for a yellow to pit with no reason to pit earlier. I literally was out a few cars behind Larry, luck of the draw, and also was held up by the woman at my pit who told me to wait in my pit box rather than line-up (grrr). Larry and I finished 12 seconds apart - I needed a few laps of green time to real him in, but it never came. We were the only ones on the winning lap - shows you the luck that takes place in the enduro as there were many faster cars that simply pitted under green.
I had a great race with Jim Breakey for many laps and was happy to hang on to GTC1. Having Jim "tow" me down the straights helped, but once in the clear I rattled off a series of 2:06 laps which helped put some distance between me and Tom McGlynn (my GTC1 nemesis for this race).
Daytona is a very cool and different track. It was a great event to boot, though I wish they had given out more awards than just for first place - not that I'm complaining, I like my "class winner" hat.
Does anyone know if they gave out enduro awards (like more hats)?
