It pained me terribly to miss this event, once again. I can only live it through those that were there. So, how about some posts, what was it like, what went on, what was great?

It was fun, as always
Saturday was sunny and warm, Sunday was cold and cloudy but eventually warmed up.
Lots of nice vintage cars but for some reason not many really historic Porsches.
Some guy in a ‘fairly new’ black 911 kept running around the track at a decent pace! It looked so familiar…

No really great cars –just the usual show.

You gotta be kidding me. Or you're just saying that to make me feel better!
CanAm. TransAm. Open wheelers. Do you like race cars? Or just Porsches?

I have been there every year for the last 7 or 8…getting to know each car too well!
Now the 50/50 at the Glen….that was a show!

Its still a great event to go to but the critical side of me can’t help but count a large number of ‘wanabes’ (cars and drivers) out there with the real cars. I would guess about 20% of the typical field knows how to race and actually runs hard.

The trans am crowd was running 2:17. about the same as an F stock Porsche…..!

Enough of the critical part – its still a great social event and there are lots of interesting things to see and do.

Past ‘great cars’ at the Glen Vintage (not there this year) –
Ex Schumacher Benetton F1 car
917 (any varity)
Any 90x (there was one 910 this year)
935/936
956
962
Chaparral (any type)
Turbo F1

That’s a short wish list…

The odd thing was Porsche was the featured mark and there were less than normal running.

I was there as a spectator for the first time. Went up for the Escape to Fingerlakes weekend. We went to the track on Sunday. Out of curiousity, are most vintage races only 5-7 laps? We weren't sure if it was because this is a special weekend or if they limit the number of laps to save the cars from potential damage.

They cram in a lot of racing – many of the ‘smaller’ races are just 5 to 7 laps and then they have ‘enduros’ that last longer and are open to more classes.
Unfortunately if they have any need to hold the track to clear a accident then things get shortened.

Yep, they are pretty short races!

The Sprint races were only 5 laps. I was bummed about that, but they did have a 60 min enduro, which was awesome. A good bit of carnage, and plenty of spare parts on the track surface. Many of the practice sessions are actually qualifying so I feel there was Much more racing over the 3 days than at a PCA event.

I believe the times were not as fast as the June PCA race, but the level of competetion was very high. Lots of really cool cars from mild to wild. I spent much of the weekend door to door with lots of cars. Only having done a handful of PCA races, this event was much more exciting and competetive for Me.

I believe the black 911 refered to was Norm Goldrich. He was his usual blazing self going sub 2 minutes. He is just as nice as he is fast, great guy...

I hear there was a massive pile up at the top of the esses in the open wheel race. Cars were just arriving and plowing in. ??????

It was good to see 2 944 turbos out there! Who was piloting the other (white) 951?

How do they determine which cars are allowed to enter? I would not have expected 944 turbos.

Chris

My friend Raphael runs the white one. He is Very fast, and now has the car sorted and should be a force next year. There was only the 2 of us (I think), someone has to rep the 2.5 water pumpers.

Rich,

Great driving on your part. You and Raphael looked good and quick on track...

Thanks for the help with my brakes!

See you soon...

There were a couple non turbo 944s too. It was entertaining watching the 951s run with the V8 tube frame stuff!
It was also fun to watch Norm run away from the V8 guys!
