Default Anyone installed a Recaro Pro Racer XL in 78-89 911?

Just purchased a Recaro Pro Racer SPG XL, but corresponded with someone who suggested that it will be impossible to fit in my 82 911 because the head support will stick out the window.

Anyone here tried this in a 78-89 911?

Thanks,

Jeff

Mine fits perfectly in my RSA using the Brey-Krause brackets on the Recaro sliders. I don't know why your car would be any different.

I thought it would be the same as the 964 also, and I have a friend with the XL model in a 964. But here is what I am talking about:

(scroll about halfway down)

Did something change between the pre-964 911 and the 964 in terms of the shape of the doors or driver/passenger windows?

Nothing changed with respect to the basic body shape, but there could have been changes to the seat track, and the shifter assembly is totally different. The Brey-Krause mounts do shift the seat more towards the center of the car, which is in the right direction. Also, it looks like mine is mounted lower, because it does not rise above the top of the window. I can shrink down a few pics and post them tomorrow if you want to see what it looks like.

Hi Larry - that makes sense. If that's the case I assume that with enough effort I can get it to fit. I also thought that the top of the seat looked rather high in those photos.

If you have time to snap pics that would be great! No hurry though - seat doesn't arrive via UPS until Monday. It would be good to see how the B-K mounts hook up too. If I want to avoid using a seat back brace in PCA club racing, I need to use the Recaro side mounts, but getting the seat to fit in the car is more important

If you mount it directly to the floor that should buy you some more room by the window.

Thanks Corey - that was my thought too. Perhaps even just not using the slider and mounting to the stock mounts would be enough.

I think I'm just going to mount up the recaro side brackets to the seat and stick it in there to see what has to be done. If I have to cut out the stock mounts then so be it.
