no they are not doing peiod! i just received an email from Orlando Morales
Dear Matt:

We appreciate you contacting us about our Driver's Education Insurance Program.

Unfortunately, we have decided to close our program due to the lack of production and the high loss ratio.

We may reconsider offering the program in the near future but only after further research and there's a greater demand for the product.

Sincerely,

Orlando Morales
Driver's Ed. Insurance Program Administrator

sounds like we should get a list of folks willing to do so they will know we are interested in the program

Orlando Morales [Orlando.M@americancollectors.com] email them let them know there is intrest in the program

This is NOT GOOD.

I have had my policy with American Collectors now since March of this year. Nothing in the mail, no phone call, no email at all to tell me that they are discontinuing this coverage.

It was great and very easy to obtain and secure.

The laurel...etc company mentioned above did not even compare with American Collectors when I was shopping for a policy.

Unfortunately, I believe they were the only real players out there.

I was about to pull the trigger to. "High loss ratio" doesn't sound promising whether they have demand or not...

I have Laurel, but starting w/ this years policy the deduct for a RSA (and only RSA afik) is $10k instead of $5k which is BS considering the RSA is just a C2 w/o power steering. I had several conversations with them about it and they won't move on it. I got an email saying that they had to pay $3k for a manual steering rack, but I pointed out that Pelican stocks them for less than $1,200. How a RSA is more expensive to repair than a 993, GT3 or whatever I still don't understand. My guess it isn't, but maybe there is a higher incident rate w/ RSAs. Not sure they didn't mention that.

I still went w/ it as if I total the RSA I figure I can get $10-12K for parts w/o a policy and w/ a $35k policy I net $25k. Still sucks though. I might not renew next year.

Dave E is great to work w/ and always calls me back quickly if I have a question, even if he is trackside at Road Atlanta or wherever.

Does "close the program" mean write no new policies, or does it mean cancel/not renew existing policies? At worst I would think current customers will be able to run out their current coverage period, and it could still be that renewalls would be allowed. He needs to elaborate a bit more..............

I would assume that is what it means. Interesting decision on the part of the company. Seems to be more than a little "out of the blue". They just wrote a one year policy for me about a month ago.

Matt,

I renewed my policy with Laurel last week, so I know they are still in the business. Dave Empringham (racer) is the rep...great guy, extremely responsive.

He sells DE insurance yet works with race teams? Does he do race insurance?

I just wish somebody would offer DE Ins for SC residents.

Hell, I'm paying $1000 a year just for street insurance for my '87 911 Turbo and I'm 47 with no tickets, only drive it about 3000 miles a year and it's a 3rd car. State Farm is KILLING ME!
