Default Custom Helmet

I've pretty much decided to have a helmet custom designed as my (ahem, 40th) birthday present to myself.

I recall (long ago) that stickers on the helmet potentially reduce the shell integrity..is this true? Is the only option to have it painted?

What sort of cost should I expect for a custom job?

(PS - always loved DJF1's avatar pic..)

My last 2 helmets (Bell Dominator and now Arai GP5K) have been painted by Mike at razorimage.com

Very professional job. The cost was $500-$650 depending on intricate the design and how quickly I needed it.

I have seen many others do great jobs as well.

My wife and kids had my OMP Tourismo helmet painted as a surprise:

(it's got Ren & Stimpy, Wile E Coyote and the Roadrunner)
The work was done by Bullseye Visual:

IIRC, it was $700. The quality of the work was excellent.

I don't have any tech on it but I would be shocked if stickers did anything to harm your helmet. Some manufacturers may void you warranty if you modify or paint your helmet but they are just covering their asses. You can buy decal kits for helmets from a few places online and they may look better than plain white but they are a far cry from a custom paint job. Expect to spend a minimum of $400 getting a decent helmet paint job.

Any vinyl graphics/sign shop can cut your design in any color you want.
You simply have to provide them with artwork.

Some manufacturer is making helmets with stickers in lieu of paint. I saw a customer's recently and if you were not looking for it you wouldn't notice. Very impressive.

I had mine painted by Kuzzins Kustoms. Price was $565 IIRC. Too bad the buttmunch couldn't follow very precise directions along with a photo and notations (and I'm not talking about minor screw-ups, but major). Even worse was I didn't make them repaint it (regret that to this day, although I highly doubt they would have).

Blowsion.com your helmet or theirs. the price varies greatly and they ask you many specific questions on what you want. colors graphics art work etc and so price can range from $100's to near 1k depending on your desires.

One of the best is former Indy driver Herm Johnson. He lives just up the road from me in Eau Claire, WI. Looks like he's redesigning his website right now, it is www.justherm.com

He used to charge $450.00 to paint a helmet, I don't know if his price has gone up lately or not. Call him up, he's one of the funniest guys I know. On the back of one guy's helmet where you list your allergies he wrote "Hard work".

Found a link to some of his designs (I love how Google caches things)
http://www.justherm.com/designs.htm
Check out his client list.

I want some of those stickers that harm the helmet... I want to put one on my partners head and see what happens !
500-750 seems to be the price as long as you ar enot going with any of the chrome process and staying with paint only. Here are mine and my sons.. my sons silver/red helmet was 650 and mine was 450...

Thanks guys - I've found a couple of people; www.customhelmets.co.uk is Neil Hodgson's brother Carl. He's quoted me £230 for a simple design; dark blue helmet, white band with PORSCHE, Total911 logo and Porsche crest.

I've started to look at other designs though...may not go for simething simple after all...keep the pics of your own/your favourite helmets coming please!
