Porsche in NASCAR???
Did anyone read with interest the article in this month's Excellence about Porsche looking at NASCAR racing using the upcomming sedan? I think the article was a joke, but then again, stranger things have happened.

Given the nature of 'stock cars' in NA$CAR, PCNA would write a check to the France family, they would deliver some GM/Ford/Dodge 'stock cars' and PCNA would apply some decals (Porsche crest, headlights, etc) and voila....a Porsche stock car.
PCNA would then write a check to the networks, to remind broadcasters that Porsche is a 2 syllable word.
PCNA would then write another check to sponsor the "NA$CAR Track Map/Analysis" segment, where one of the former NA$CAR drivers/commentators would 'take us for a lap around "Fill in the blank oval" and explain the line.
I can hardly wait....

LoL, you must not have read the article. A purely tongue-in-cheek jab at Porsche. It was mildly entertaining due to how out of place it was for Excellence.
Admittedly, my jaw dropped until a read a few sentences into it.

You all is missin' da big pichtur. All Porsche has to do is stick a bed on the back of the Cayenne and enter the Craftsman Truck series. Stick a Holley 4 barrel right on top of that 8 cylinder motor. They could even call it the Cajones! Betch that Bubba would buy one!

Theres a storied tradition here in the states of stuffing big blocks in the back of 911s and 914s. I, for one, am glad to know that with these things running around ovals, we'll at least be able to keep tabs on who the fools are that do this sort of thing.

Porsche is currently using something other than over-head valves ?

Sorry Professer.... that description is used for the NA$CAR V-8's running here in the States !!!
Here in the USA... our V-8 engines with a single cam in the block operating the valves via pushrods & rocker arms are refered to as...
An Overhead Valve Engine.
This dates back to the old Ford flathead V-8 engine which was a side valve design. when GM came out with their post WW-II V-8's. Cadillac & Olds had the intake & exhaust valves in the heads...resulting in defining these engines as an... Overhead valve engine.
Hope this helps.

NASCAR rules require the entry must be based on a US built vehicle.
Toyota had to build a push rod motor from the ground up for craftsman trucks and now for the Bush and Nextel series.

Went to a Porsche dealer, the 996GT3 looked remarkably similar to the 996GT3 Cup car I saw coming off the same production line at PAG.
