How Much Ballast Do You Carry?
Please post car details (year & specific model), class, weigh saving mods, additional mods not done & approx additional savings, ballast required to make weight when empty on gas.
Here's mine:
1991 964 Turbo
D Stock
Mods: fuel cell, FG F/R bumpers, headers
Mods not done: Lighter wheels & tires = ~25lbs savings (run Hollow Spokes w/MPSCs)
Carrying 115lbs ballast to meet 3000# minimum
I had to remove the spare tire when adding the fuel cell, so that has really killed me. I missed weight by 5lbs at Lime Rock with ~11 gals in the tank! Doh!

My car weighs 2500 with 1/4 tank of gas and without me. I need to lose another 300 lbs to reach the limit. So, I guess I have 300 lbs of balast just waiting to be removed.
I started with a 1992 C2 and made 1 or 2 mods. I'm down to the 10 pounds here and there as just about everything easy and/or cheap has been done (as well as a few pricey changes). The car is close to the capabilities of a 996 cup (I can beat the poorly driven ones) but not really competitive against a well driven one (yet).

1995 993 C2
D stock
Mods: race seats, Fikses, no mufflers, no heat, fg front bumper, no airbags, spare is out because the bracket that holds it down came loose, Hoosiers are probably lighter than street tires - subtracts weight
full cage, fire system - adds weight
I carry 84 lbs of ballast and have to have at least a half tank of gas to make weight of 3064.
I used to use a full windshield washer reservoir as ballast but since and off track excursion, it doesn't help.

Perhaps we should clarify that data is sought for stock class PCA race cars.
Here's mine:
'89 944S2 former IMSA Firehawk race car, E class in PCA
Minimum wt. allowed 2,750lbs
NO ballast added and I am right at 2,750lbs with almost no gas in the tank.
Fiberglass hood
Fiberglass front bumper
removed rear seatback
No AC
No power steering
No sunroof or hatch release mechanism
Full, but minimal roll cage
car has auxillary oil coolers
18" Forgelines with Hoosiers
I'm in the process of rebuilding the car with a much more substantial, but 4130 cage. In order to try to keep the weight at a minimum I'm doing the following:
Odyssey 925 battery saves 15lbs
Lexan windshield saves perhaps 18lbs
Hoping to avoid it, but can use a fiberglass rear bumper in place of the factory one if needed. That would save around 20-25lbs.

I think the biggest discrepancy is going to be in the newer cars (964, 993, 996, 997, etc.).
My 993 C2 is pretty much bone stock. Everything is as was delivered from the factory with the exception of the seats (added SPG's) and the addition of a DAS bar. I have the big door speakers, cats, carpets, sound deadening, and spare tire just to name a few. Hell, I still have the CD changer in the trunk full of CD's. I have 65 lbs of ballast and I still need a half a tank of gas to make weight. I'm really about 95 lbs shy of 3,064 lbs when dry. I want to put on some cat bypass pipes and remove the sound deadening but know I will have to add more weight.

I haven’t started racing yet as I still need a kill switch, suit, etc., but I have my RSA down to 2793 w/ a third of a tank.
Added weight: roll bar, harnesses, stock sunroof (damnit!)
Have removed:
a/c, undertray, all interior insulation and the RSA shelf, boot carpeting, air bags, has Sparco wheel and seats, and has cat and primary bypasses, and I run Cup II Wheels right now which are around 18 lbs in the front and 21.5 in the rear if I remember correctly and much lighter than the Cup Is.
When/if I go to a full cage I will probably be closer to 2,860 and will need to find 100 lbs to remove. The sunroof will be 45, and a lighter battery will be about 15. Not sure how I will find another 40 to remove as the spare will stay in. I might run a secondary bypass as well for another 15 lb loss, but that will be LOUD.
So I have the opposite problem as I will have a tough time getting down to 2,760 w/ a full cage.

My '73RS touring has about the same ballast as the '73S above, about 75 pounds with stock muffler (Lime Rock) with full fuel cell, more with lighter muffler.
Added : full cage, run nearly full 17 gallon fuel cell, fire system,
lightened : FG bumpers and decklid, RS door panels, RS interior, plexi windscreen, headers, seats, etc
I can't get it light enough to run in D as an RS lightweight with the allowable mods. I guess it would need thinner sheetmetal and glass to be a real RS lightweight.
The 2004 GT3 cup is much heavier than the spec weight and it's all stock.

Burning Brakes
944 Supercup car - 944 chassis, 968 engine (runs as 968)
Weight savings - test pipe, AC delete, chromoly cage, fikses
Ballast - 80 lbs of steel with 1/4 tank to reach `3200 base weight (including driver). After this weekend - carried 110 pounds of ballast and 3/4 of a tank to make 3290 for Sunday's race- plus another 30 pounds of plates (rewards ballast for the second win of the weekend) for the next round of 44 cup in June.

1996 993 C class
Full cage
Weight saving mods: wheels and tires (Fikse w/ MPSC), seats (Recaro SPG), removal of driver's side airbag, removal of speakers on doors b/c of cage, use of Fabspeed supercups in place of mufflers, use of fiberglass rear wing in place of motorized wing and very slightly smaller battery.
Have to run with spare tire (25lb) and 50lb of ballast and have at least 1/4 tank of gas at end of run session to meet 3064 weight.
