GT3 CUP brake changes
During the 996 cup car evolution 1998-2005 did the brake caliper and disc size change?
Interesting that I have to brake earlier in the ice car (going faster?) than I did in the 993 with big reds. Why would a 993 cup have bigger brakes than a 996 cup?
Next question: Can you just bolt on bigger brakes or does this require system changes?
How man race $ to cure would you guess ?

Billl the 99' through 01' Cup had the Twin Turbo calipers and pads that were 330mm if I remember correctly. Starting in 02' they increased the calipers and pads to 350 mm in the fronts only. I believe the upgrade for the fronts is bolt on and well worth it. Since you're already running in GTA, check out the solid Brembo rotors in lieu of the factory cross-drilled ones that wear out in weeks....

Thanks JR. I will look into the Brembo set up.
I was also wondering about the factory RS or RSR brakes. Are they the next level?
I am a late braking kind of guy...

Maybe you are braking earlier because you are carrying a lot more speed into the brake zone? If the braking just doesn't feel as good maybe it is a pad issue.
The RS/RSR setup gets rid of ABS and has a dual master cylinder and balance bar.

JR, how many pistons are the Twin Turbo calipers? I thought that they were the largest of the 4 piston calipers. The 04 and newer GT3s and Cups have the 350 mm rotors and the huge 6 piston calipers. Bill, teamed up with RS-19 pads, your car WILL stop. At Summit, I could brake later going 155 in the GT3 than I could in my Carrera at 125!

Guys:
until 01 the caliper was exactly like a 993 or 996TT. 4 piston big reds, street car part.
In my opinion (not worth as much as Gordons....) if you are not a pro you do not need the bigger brakes. I never ran out of brake and I have the older style caliper and rotor which is much less expensive for rotors, calipers, pads.
Maybe after Daytona I will change my mind?
The 02 cars had 6 piston yellow calipers up front.
03+ cars have 6 piston red calipers but of the same dimension, etc.
Bill I think we both brake late and I have no problem with what can now be called the "little reds"
Plus they weigh a bit less too..

Chris is spot on with the advantages of going with the earlier brakes. But for me, at the end of the day, I view the braking system as a safety feature first, so I'm willing to pay the $ to have that extra stopping power if I ever did need it.
btw, you will also need to upgrade the front wheels to 9.0" (which are more expensive than the older 8.5" fronts)

Bill,
I believe Rick Deman has a 380mm brembo setup from a GT3RSR. You may check with him as that might be a better setup and less expensive than new 03-later Cup brakes.

Talking about pads, what are you guys using?
I'm using pagid orange front and rear but have to fight with too much bias in the rear. The rear dances a bit during high speed braking. I'm thinking about going to a less aggressive pad in the rear.
Thanks for any input.

Bill I would check out Mr. De Man's Brembo system if it includes using your ABS....Those rotors are significantly lighter and work great with RS19's/14's rear. Arnold that combo works great with stock rotors too.

Glne what are your thoughts on the Brembo or AP's solid rotor with aluminum hats? I've seen a few cups with them and they swear they last twice as long as the stock cross-drilled rotors. I believe they're not GTC legal, but Bill's GTA anyway so your thought please???
