Default how are hoosier DOT radial in warm/hot weather?

warm/hot weather ~ 80+ degrees

my car is ~3000lbs and i'm thinking of using them for time trailling. how many laps does it take to get them nice and sticky and how many laps does it take to get greasy? should i just use my MPSCs in 90+ heat?

How big is the track? Rough estimate is one lap to be ready to go IF you are agressive on the out lap and don't just cruise around. The new tires (S04 and later) are better and don't go off as much as the early model as they warm up. You will get your best lap in the first 3 or 4, after that you are just burning your tires up. I would do a few laps, come in, check pressures and go back out towards the end of the session for a few laps.

thx

3 mile track (thunderhill) for a point of reference.

so in warm~hot weather they'll only last 3~4 laps so they really not meant for a 10 lap, 20 minute TT session.

They will work fine for a 20 minute session. I think Greg is saying that their peak grip occurs at around lap 3 or 4, but you can run them for the whole session and they won't suddenly lose their grip or anything. Make sure you get the R's not the A's.

I also have a new set of 305's (s04's) if someone needs or wants them. $100 each plus shipping.

Just a thought but some TT rules allow one "warm up" and one "hot" lap. The Hoosiers are decent from the start, but do take a couple laps to really warm up.

If you really want to maximize performance in a 2 lap TT event, you might want to look into the "A" compound Hoosier make for A-X... it is much softer with a quicker warm-up time. Now, it may be TOO soft for even 1 hot lap on a full track.... I don;t know, but it is at least worth exploring.

Also, you may look into playing with higher pressures. For a 30 minute race, generally you allow about 6psi difference cold to hot... 36/42 is usually my target...(depending on weather). But for a two lap event, you may want to up the cold temp....
