Default Kumho V700 Ecsta's

So I bought some Ecsta V700's. They are shaved and heat cycled. Couldn't refuse the price (used), but I saw both some pretty bad and pretty decent reviews of these tires for track use. I'm just going to use them for DE's. So how bad or good are they? Most of the reviews I see are pretty old.

They were the worst track tires that I ever used--by a wide margin. I believe that fruit flies have a longer life span and the rubber on my Nikes would be faster. I like Victoracers but Ecstas are not worth the price of mounting to me. Can you tell that I dislike them? Hopefully they were very cheap for you. Sorry, you asked

Oooh, that's bad... I've heard of some wear and chunking issues and short heat cycles that won't last a 25 minute session. I've heard they're acceptable for the price. I'm currently on Dunlop SSR's and was hoping the Kumho's would be a step up. They probably will be, stick wise. Any issues w/ the stick? If I can get 4 weekends out of them, I guess I'll be happy for the price I paid.
How long do fruit flies live, anyways?

I think alot of the reviews depend on car weights. Ligther cars can make use of them for few sessions.

Heavier more powerfull cars tend to use them up.

How could a self respecting company that makes some pretty decent tires get 4 out of 4 drivers here preferring to stuff fruit flies in their airbox than put these things on their rims, much less drive w/ them?!!

Now you've got my prurient dander up. So how bad are they indeed? The "what is the worst track tire" shootout. While I'd like to test these buggers to destruction in a measured way, being that I have neither a lightweight car nor low horsepower, I don't think I want to risk my otherwise pristine Porsche w/ some overheated delaminating tires vs. concrete. Nor do I want to use my all to rare track time on such a frivolity.

Set of 4 V700 Kumho's. Selling for a friend [no return policy] who got these just before he sold his car and never got a chance to put them on [hated 'em]. My loss is your gain [I'll take anything for them]... :-(

Thanks guys, thanks alot {-)

I would run V700's on my 944 spec car. However it is light and easy on tires. I may not like them as much as my Toyo or even victoracers, but they are fine tire for cars of this weight and power.

It is for the larger and more powerfull cars that the tire tend to suffer. Really that is not strange to me as it is hard to make a tire work very well on a 150hp 2500lbs car in a 15" size as on 300 hp , 3200lbs car on an 18" size.

FYI, I had good experience with 700ecstas, on the street, autocross, and
track days, but no real track racing.
However, I just found out from Kumho that current stock of 700 ecstas
are all there will be. They are discontinued. By the end of the year
Kumho will have expended their Victoracer and v710 sizes to cover
what the v700 ecstas did.

Sounds right. Probably is pretty hard to do (to make a single tire design fit across a spectrum of cars). But Toyo seems to have done a good job of being desirable to a whole lot of different drivers.
I'd take the Victoracers too. But they don't come in 18's. Probably a good reason for that too.
Would the MPSC be an issue for your car being on the cold side, i.e., good for heavier cars? Do you like MPSC's on your 944?

I had the V700's and wouldn't recommend them, not because they wore fast, but because they got greasy about 10 minutes into a track session.

That sure explains alot (about the discontinuation). Good info and good for Kumho.
I doubt the ones I now have will eventually become collectors items :-).

I have used the MPSC on my 944 and I like those. They are not as quick as a Hoosier but dont give up much to them and they lasted a track season. The extra $ was worth it for the life I got from them. Just watch them when it is cold or cold and wet then they really lack grip. I have not used the V710's but I understand that they are comparable to a Hoosier. They won many championships at both runoffs and Solo last year. For DE, you cant beat the Toyos: good price, good stick and they last forever. I have a set that are two years old and are not quite dead yet.

Dan, what is your track experience? Have you run "R" tires before? MPSCs are a good tire for the heavy 911's. I have run 225/235 up front and 265/285 back. I have even seen 265s up front and 305s rear. The warm up on MPSCs is a little more of a challenge. If you are new to R's , they will be seem like a mistake until you get heat in them, but will last a good long time(relatively speaking). Not a street tire. You can drive a short distance on them, but really should drop them onto a set of "track rims" and bring them along.
