Default In-car 2:10 lap sebring video with data acq overlaid

While patiently waiting for Sebring,I have been watching my whole race video daily to see where I can pick up more speed (and yes there are multiple places), I thought I'd share a pretty fun lap with you...

The DAQ included is speed, rpm, G-load, laptime and Boost.

You will note the max G hit is 2.04 g's...

www.trackvision.net/uploads/goldrich_sebring.wmv

Right click and save-as. It is aprox 23MB.

Hope you enjoy....

Pretty cool Norm. Your motor pulls like a freight train. I notice that you have to horse the car around a lot of the turns. Is that becasue of the locked rear? BTW I think that I'll keep this video on the desk to for a while, just for reference.

Holy Smoke! Except for the bumpy surface, the lap was so smoothly executed it seemed slow, until one looks at the speedo. Wow! Marvelous job!

How much horspeower does that engine make. The acceleration was super.

Thank you, Norm!

I still can't get used to seeing how much your seat moves. I remember the video that Leh posted from Sebring showed the same thing.

Please post more videos!!!!

Norm,
Awesome video. It looks to me like you could save a couple of seconds by freeing up that rear end. It appears that you have to get on the throttle a bit later to prevent understeering in addition to using a lot of throttle-steer at mid-corner to get the car to rotate. I realize throttle steer is a critical technique to use quite often (and very effective), but just from looking at the video, it seems you could greatly benefit from freeing up that rear end a bit.

Thanks all for the nice comments. It's a fun car to drive (just wish I could get rid of the need for all the throttle steering)...

Larry & Mark:
Yes, it is definitely my locked spool that causes me to have to do all throttle steering. Quite a balance to do that without losing a lot of time. Not having a diff makes both rears spin at the same rate and causes a ton of understeer and front tire wear, but throttle steering makes it turn in...

One of these days I'll actually try a diff.

I would definitely save time in the tighter turns with a diff, but not sure if I would lose time in the high speed sweepers. So different tracks would probably yield sifferent results.

I am sure it would definitely make my front tires last longer...

Bigpinekey: It has a good amount of power - have to compensate for some things :-) Just need to dial out some more understeer.

Greg: The g-load does cause quite a bit of seat movement. I have done a couple of things that have definitely helped...

Juan: There is a really nice pic of your car in race action. I just saw it in the new Vintage Motorsport magazine I received yesterday (I believe it was that mag). And no you don't suck, our cars are just run in different classes. Yours looks pretty darn cool too...

I need to do even more shock setup this year.

Also did a lot of work to further improve my trust in the brakes over the winter...

See you at Sebring...

Great stuff Norm. The acceleration of your car over 150mph is just unreal.

See you at Sebring!

Norm, Thanks for the kind comment ! I only run 2 liter with skinny threaded tires but you are lapping 20 seconds faster.........

I must look for that magazine. I gather it must be from the CHRA races at Homestead this past October.

Please post more videos. Love to see them plus its always a learning tool.

Which data Aq and overlay program are you using?

Cheers, Juan

Juan,

I am running an MXL Pro data acq with all channels connected. I am now going to upgrade since I want/need about 8 more channels...

I am using Trackvision (www.trackvision.net) to overlay the daq.

OK Thanks. I realized I have that magazine on my desk (Can Am Thunder on the Cover) but can't find an action shot just the group photo..... Perhaps its next months' issue?

I'm looking at my options on the Data Aq, like the RacePak and Trackvision is working with them currently.

Congrats on the magazine coverage, Juan! Grassroots Motorsport is the best us 944CUp guys get.

FWIW, TrackVision V1.2 now officially supports Racepak, and users are producing video from their G2X logger data. See G2X/TrackVision for the Racepak announcement.
