He's not.

John, you build cages for at least part of your livelihood. Make it a showcase. Do you really want people walking away saying "Nice, but he should have finished the job?"

God, I'm a pain.

Default Has he Lost his Mind?

Yeh... that's what you're thinking;

He's lost his mind. What kind of cage piece is this? Well... it's not. Little side project. This is a hand railing for the galley of a friend's racing boat. Replaces a teak wing table that served no purpose during the long distance races he does.

Incidentally, for those interested, this is the first project that I have used my Pro Tools 105 mechanical bender for that was dimension critical. The ends of the main section sort of had to meet at the same point or it would be a failure. It's also a REALLY expensive boat, so no junk would suffice. My old bender takes a lot of guess work and fudging, but not this baby. This thing is within an 1/8th inch dimmnesionally. What a nice thing to have such accuracy!

Never fear. Now that this railing and the seat fab is done, I did bend the most perfect passenger side hoop for my cage yesterday. It fits so snug I have to use a mallet and pry bar to get it in and out. Pics to come.

John, looks nice. Can't wait to see more cage pictures. I'm sure I'll never build my own cage, but I can dream, can't I!

John, you'd better rust-proof the sh*t out of it.

Hey All;

No, I have not forgotten or lost interest. Other projects beckoned, plus very incremental, fussy work on this one, mostly thanks to that PITA Geo.

I knew G would be dissappointed so I did it. Drivers side fully boxed into the body, ready for primer. Pictures do not do it justice at all. It really does look nice, even bare. In some respects, this treatment increases safety because there is absolutely nothing to get snagged on!

The inside will be fully padded with SFI 45.1/2 foam, and then covered with fleece lining. Yes... you are looking at the header, aren't you?

The header is made of two 1.5 tubes instead of the conventional single 1.75. Reason; less room taken, but more strength. This treatment would barely lie below the original interior, if at all. It is that tight to the body. It is boxed in the middle and either end, and tied into the chassis.

I can't wait to finish this thing!
