To expand on what DrJupe said, you have to make weight when they weigh you at the end of the race. So, you typically need to be at or slightly higher than the minimum with no fuel left (like at the end of an enduro).

But without the driver.

I don't race a 993 or even a stock class car.
I do however race a car that simply does not fit in the scope of PCA club racing.

So for this past year I put in two rules change proposals(general not specific for my car either) in the spirit of fixing the problem rather than just complaining about it. What happened?

Both rules change proposals got morphed into something different. One was a weight reduction concept for the stock classes. This one was proposed, but they eliminated the other part of my proposal and that was a way to acheive this elective weight. Thus it as proposed it was a "bad" rule and rightfully rejected.

Seems really crazy to me. I propose X and along with it Y as way to acheive it. The open for comment X, but remove Y as an option to get there and provide no way to do it. It is like saying you should lose weight, but can't exercise or change your diet to do it. Hmm I wonder what sucess that would have.

Anyway... I figured after that kind of stuff the PCA club racing leadership does not really care for racing in the same sense that I do. So I gave up and will not race in PCA club racing anymore. I can tell when "my kind" are not wanted.

I understand why the club race officials don't want to make many changes but I think lightening up the 993 a little bit and then moving the 3.4L 996 with a little weight penalty into D would make it a great class. The early 996s are a dime a dozen and should have a place to race. The are good track cars but will never be competitive in C. D could become a huge class in a couple of years.

let me play devils advocate here.

Who is to say that figure isn’t a typo? I mean, I have an official dealer brochure from my car that lists the front wheel diameter as 15 inches. All 944 Turbo’s came with 16’s to clear the larger brakes.

On another note, I’m not so sure PCA could get away with changing base weights to include driver. Now that base weights have long been established without drivers, it will be easy to see exactly how much weight they add for drivers. This will draw praise from heavy folks and jeers from lightweights.

For NASA 944 SuperCup, I have to be at 3250 with driver. It is not stated how much of that is car vs. driver, i.e. whole conflict above was avoided

Jim,
I agree with you. Now you are thinking logically and that has no place in PCA.

We can't forget what exhaust can do for some cars over anothers - 964's will see a much larger increase than the 993's.

Also, are we taking gas into consideration here? Very heavy - are they weighing the cars right before you go out onto the track at the events?

I'm hoping to race in 2007 with an RSA spec C2...

The cars are weighed at the end of qualifying or at the end of the race.

The exhaust issue is well taken. I picked up a nice weight loss on my 94 3.6 turbo when I went to headers. I also picked up a nice power increase which more than made up for the weight discrepancy!! I can't get that level of power increase in my NA 993 with exhaust mods.

By running with NASA I can dump nearly 100 lb. of ballast, remove the pass. seat and eliminate a few other anchors from my 993. When done I will be on the smiley side of the hp/weight equation.

See you at NASA

In my experience, the 964's exhaust is much more restrictive than the 993's. It seems that you can get close to 993 power with an excellent exhaust in a 964, or at least close enough not to justify the weight difference in the class.
