I spoke with speedware motorsports about the profi spg xl. That seat seems to be what I would need. Like you say Mooty and Cooz, it's a reasonable seat for the street. It will also have the height for HANS use if/when I get to that point. It's a little more $$, but I guess I am getting used to that trend with the p-car. Looks like I will try the Recaro sliders and brackets. I will also get the Recaro tidbits that allow use of the stock belts too. Looks like the damage with DAS bar, and Sparco harnesses is ~3k. But it should be good and safe. Thanks all for your help. Gotta love RL.

kgorman,

i have two spg xl seats (the type i posted in above link). one is mounted in a bmw one is sitting in my storage in castro valley. if you like, you can pm me, come by and see how you fit. no, i am not selling them.

www.tcdesignfab.com also carry those seats, make sure you check prices with them compared with speedware. tony at tcdesign can do the install as well.

adam at speedware is great, knows recaro by heart.

kgorman,
I would try different seats before I buy one. I am not convinced that the SPG has the belt holes higher than the Corbeaux XL At least not on the european models Check the net for dimensions for the various seats The height of the shoulder supports is important and that is where the big diffrence is I am 6,3 and the SPG XL was too low for me

I'm 6'-4" and have the standard width model. No prob with the height of the holes. One thing to note though... at least when I was "shopping", (a year ago when there weren't too many of these around or in stock, and there may have been several/older generations still in the pipeline) the wider version is a completely different seat. The head-containment halo is at the very top of the shell, w/o the little extra tab of headrest extending above the halo that you see in some of the mfrs. pics... Do your best to sit in, or at least see, the actual seat you will be buying (good advise for any seat really, as noted by burgass above).

Don't know who you are buying through, but these are the guys I bought mine from: http://www.apexperformance.net/ I got great service and their experience dealing with RaceTech-USA was a plus.

Thanks for the post! I have to go to the wider model
One more Q. How did you mount them? Are they low enough for your hear clearance?
TIA

Try as many as you can because producers use different types of foams and that makes the seats different
I had my Corbeaux Sprint XL specially ordered with the foam for the Pro Series which gave me more space

It's a bit of a kludge, but actually quite solid... used the RaceTech side mounts (pretty much like all the other side mounts) bolted to a piece of solid aluminum plate from these guys: http://www.inertiawerks.com/Seat_Adapters.htm which is in-turn bolted to the stock mounting points... NO sliders, just not enough head room.

One thing you may not know about the RaceTech (they certainly don't advertise it, or is it visible in most/any of their product photos) there is an integral seat back brace, complete with mounting bosses and bolts. Although an FIA seat, its back is designed (according to the MFR) to be bolted directly to the cage.

but wait! there's more! It also has factory cut holes under the seat bottom cushion for a six-point belt system... another feature seemingly not mentioned anywhere in the literature/descriptions...

That is VERY cool... Thanks! With your info I think the deal is clinched in my book... The common sensus is that the Momo brackets offer the lowest mounting position. I wonder if they fit the RaceTech seat.

I went and sat in the Recaro's. I have to say, the SPG XL is *perfect*. Plenty of room for any HANS setup. Griffin Motorworks in Berkeley had a good lineup to test out.
