I have had good results with Longacre products - fair price and accurate.

Pyrometer: http://www.longacreracing.com/catalo...id=875&catid=7
To be accurate, you must use a probe to read the compound temperature, the infrared guns only measure surface temp.

Additionally, here is an expensive tool, that is very handy:

Ditto on Longacre.

I use this 4 tire hot/cold memory tire pressure gauge on my son's kart:

Where do you find suggested tire temperatures for different brands and models of tires? Good to measure to see if the temperature is even across the face of all the tires in order to check alignment, but what absolute temperatures are you looking for?

If you can find the manufacturer's datasheet for the particular tire/compound/construction, they will usually have optimum tire temperatures (measured wtih a probe type pyrometer as soon as you come off track).

This is how I measure my son's kart tires.

I'm no longer enamored with Longacre pressure gauges. I've compared 3 identical ones (same expensive model) and have a 2-4lbs difference between them, one is 1 year old, the other 2 were brand new...

In addition, after 1 year, mine stopped locking the pressure reading in place until you press the relief button. Never dropped it, and always stored it in a hard case.

On the lookout for a better brand...

I'll check them out....but I though Longacre was supposed to be one of the best too...

That one goes to 100lbs so it'll work on the rear tires of the tow vehicle (80lbs) too...a plus...

That's exactly what I'm not finding on the web for RA-1s, MPSCs, etc. Anyone have a pointer?

Longacre is an excellent choice for non professional racing applications.

You will see the Intercomp gauge I provided the link to at MANY professional events (ALMS, Supercup, etc).

Also, as with ANY electronic/standards measuring device (voltmeter, thermometer, pressure gauge, etc), in order to maintain traceability and accuracy, you MUST return it to the manufacturer once a year for calibration/recertificaiton........Intercomp or Longacre.

Itc:
I beg to differ. I used to sell race equipment - Longacre, Intercomp, as well as several other brands. We finally stopped carrying Intercomp because of too many problems - new gauges being inaccurate, "rebuilt" gauges still inaccurate, "rebuilt" gauges not repaired, etc, etc...

Longacre, on the other hand, were much better - item quality, repair service quality, customer relations, etc, etc...

Just my experience.....

300 scoots for a gauge... OUCH!

Many friends have had success with the Longacre products.

True but how much does one rear tire on your car cost? And how long does it last?...

I hear ya, Kim, but the price range on gauges is so variable. I'd probably go with a "cheaper" gauge and dump the bucks into the pyrometer.

Cheers
