If you have a competition license with another sanctioning body, NASA will recognize it and you just have to pay the fee.

I'll be dabeling in GTS next year. Can't wait. Maybe Cris Brady will chime in since he played in GTS this year in his 911.

I really like the single car/ no penalty rule. It seems a little over zealous to punish someone who slid off into the tirewall in the rain and hurt nobody but himself.

I have a question: If I do the comp school for NASA (VIR) and begin with the GTS Challenge for my license, can I do a PCA race as well? or do I have to do another provisional program totally so I can do a few PCA races? Does anyone have the answer?

I have my PCA club racing license, but that's it.

I haven't got any comp lic.as of today. Getting my comp school done at VIR with NASA and will do the GTS sprint and enduro that weekend, but will that allow me to race with PCA say at Mid Ohio in May?

I contacted NASA and the reply was that a valid PCA license, a current medical form and $50 and you're in. Now all I need is the car!

I can confirm that. I got my NASA license a few months ago, and ran my first NASA race in October. With a full PCA license getting a NASA license requires nothing more than filling out a form and paying a fee. I'm looking forward to running more NASA races in 2006.

The 2006 championship race at Mid Ohio is making NASA look very interesting in comparison to PCA.

I ran the CMP NASA event last year. Unfortunately, I had to run alone in GTS3. I like the system, but would have to run my car 200 lbs. lighter to max out GTS3. It's doable, but it would be tough switching back and forth between PCA and having to readjust corner weights constantly. A GTC1 car with DOT's would be perfect for GTS3.

PCA does allow a member to obtain a PCA license with a license from a recognized road racing organization, but NASA is not listed by PCA as one ot those organizations in the 2005 rule book.

So a provisional should be accepted for regional events by most sanctioning bodies.

Of course it's always a good idea to talk to one of the entry logistics or staff people prior, they're good to get to know.

Each club wants people to participate and enjoy themselves, so if you're a safe driver and it's known, I have no reason to think a provisional would not suffice.

Usually provisionals are good for any regional event. For most, after 2-4 regionals the provisional is removed and a national is issued, then you have a full license that crosses over most anywhere.

I ran with GTS for 2004 & 2005 with my 911 and really enjoyed it. I managed to talk a couple of the other Delaware racers into coming out with me after seeing how much fun I was having. I really like the NASA format of a Prac/Qual/Race on each day, with 2 sprint races each race weekend. Yeah you do get more track time at a PCA race weekend with the 3 practice sessions on Sat, and warmup/qual/sprint on Sunday. But I come to go racing. If I want more track time, I'll do a driver's ed event.

The local (Mid Atlantic) region GTS has been great. This year we were running an all German NASA race group with GTS Challenge, 44Cup and SpecE30 all running together with all groups using the modified 13/13 rule. Coexistance with all groups has been for the most part great. Olivier Raoust is the local director for GTS and is a good guy and fast in his bimmer.

A NASA race weekend has it's own favor, different from PCA. They also run DE groups in between the race groups and that's a lot of fun. Your non-racer friends can bring out their cars and hangout and help for the weekend. NASA is very customer friendly with a minimum of bureauracy. Race sign-ups on done on the web with a credit card. Something breaks and you don't get to race? You can get a full refund of your event fee.

If you want to dip you toe into the NASA/GTS waters, I would suggest you sign up for the Summit Point HyperFest in July. Drifting contest, Daisy Duke contests, rock bands, fireworks, rollover contests AND racing. What's not to like
