Evil I would have to say, this is my opinion ONLY, if you want to go with possible the best 944 guy in the East (that I know of )go to John Milledge. Be prepared to spend big bucks, but the fastest 944's Ive ever seen that have been dry sumped are his product. I am sure you've heard of him. Unfortunately my pockets werent deep enough to be able to afford his work.
Can tell ya what I know, feel free to email me I can tell you more and send some pictures

Buying a properly dry sumped 911 would solve it (I just couldn't resist!)

The oil is full of metal, so I apparently have spun rod bearings. I am getting everything lined up with a little help from my friends and I will be trying to get a new motor installed before VIR with NNJR (if possible).

So my guess is you head is fine, block is probably fine, crank probably toast.
So get the new motor in the car.
take the old motor and tear it down. Take the crank to shop and have them look at it and determine if it can be fix or not. You should be able to get undersize bearings the first 2 sizes without too much cost. They shop should be able to estimate of the can do it with either of those sizes. If they need to cut more to fix the crank just look for a used one (ebay or list). Then have it inspected to ensure it is good then have it cross drilled and rebuild the engine with that.
On the rebuild be very carefull to clean as much as possible to remove all the metal shavings. You may need a new oil cooler too as the stock ones can get clogged badly from shavings. If so maybe look for an external 951 cooler and oil filter housing.

That is fine,
I know on my motor that blew up the stock cooler was plugged bady with crap. Very badly. I chose not to use that one again.
On my 88 motor that just spun the bearing I had and external 951 cooler. I just cleaned that out very well with solvent and air. I have reused this one on my car right now.

Oh, and BTW: according to the Summit Point track maps, the folks down in WVA spell it: Karussel, with only one "l." I don't 'sprechen Sie Deutsches' but it seems that both Karussel and Karussell are legit. For the record...

In any event, he claims, the oil filter is between the cooler and the motor, so if any random particulates do remain in the cooler, the filter will catch them. Since he seels coolers, and I was about ready to buy one from him, I tend to take this advice as pretty credible.
