Cool Windows Media Codec Performance

I've been tinkering around with different video formats lately and did a little experiment I thought I'd share with the group. I took a one minute video clip and rendered it in three different quality levels.

Now you can see for yourself the differences in size and video quality.

Right click, Save As
I think the 512k streaming rate to be the best trade off in quality to size. The 1024 is a bit more detailed and clearer, but it takes twice the storage!

Download the clips to your desktop and see for yourself.

You might want to experiment with 640x480 @ 768 mbps. I've used it and it's a good compromise. It works particularly well if you have text overlays.

By far the best codec out there is Nero MPG4 H.264. Unfortunately, players for the codec are not free yet, so were still largely stuck with wmv9.

I was a very big fan of DivX until this last 6.0 release. I plunked down my $ for a copy of the DivX 6 package only to find it wasn't compatible with Adobe Premiere Pro. The DivX codec just doesn't show up as an available export format.
